since most people these days arent considered "old school," traditional might mean modern transmissions. valvoline dex/merc states for pre 2006 GM trans so might just mean what people today consider traditional. could also be manual trans, but you;d think valvoline would know to call them manual, never heard of a manual called traditional.

i just looked at current valvoline dex/merc bottles & at their website & didn't see anything related to "not intended for traditional transmissions" just the pre 2006 GM & other dates for ford etc. heres a link that shows close ups of thh current bottles at walmart.

Had to laugh while thinking of a friend who had a ~1990 chevy pickup back in the day, and was convinced that the recommended ATF was too thin for the transfer case. He used 80/90 gear lube and of course was then rebuilding the case a few months later. He lived in the southern US so it probably lasted longer than it would have durning the MN winter months!

The wording was actually on the back of the gallon jug. It also states for auto so can't see why someone would intend to buy for a manual tranny. But, as long as some are using this with no issues, I know what I need.

DEX I--DEX II--DEX III--MERCON.

The Allison when in tow-haul mode has the convertor locked 2nd gear and up. There also a deep pan option:

When I had my 2004 Duramax I upgraded to this and it went from a 7 quart drain to a 12 quart drain. The gasket is reusable.
