ctm:

As you say, PHS docs will tell the tale, but my bet is that Ram Air was standard equipment on ALL Judges, which would mean that your car is not a Judge.

Bob:

Great information. Of course, your build sheet/manifests would not show ANY CA emissions equipped cars. Mine is a CA emissions equipped car, therefor the "WN" build sheet carb code, and the 7040570 and WN stamping on the carburetor itself.

Also makes sense that the UPC 601 Hood Air Inlet option was restricted to 455 cars, since Ram Air was standard equipment on RA III and RA IV cars, and unavailable with the base 400 4V engine.

According to the 1970 dealer sales album:

"The Judge" performance option - Available GTO only, includes such features as: 400 cu in Ram Air V-8 engine; functional, driver controlled, air-intake hood scoops............... not going to type the rest.

Also, according to the same book, the hood scoop was available as standard equipment on all RA III and RA IV engines and available as an option with the 360 hp 455 on GTO only. Code 601, UPC T42.

The price pages:

Engine Code 348 UPC L74 (RA III) (includes 601)
Engine Code 347 UPC L67 (RA IV) (includes 601)

Hood Air Inlet code 601 UPC T42 (included with 347,348) w/344 (L75 455 360 HP)

I wouldn't expect much more than a handful of M13s to get bolted to a 455RA engine. That still leaves a large discrepancy between your quoted figures from Fred and the fiugres I came up with via other sources. I don't have the statistics from Fred that you have. I need to get in touch with Mr. Simmonds to try to obtain more of his research.

This is my first time posting and I appreciate everone's information, particularly about the carb. nos. I bought a 1970 RA 455 off e-bay about 2 years ago. The engine was disassembled but I talked the original purchaser and verified that it was an original 30K mile car. It was built at the Arlington, TX plant and the PHS docs say interest charges started accruing to the dealer on his floor plan on 11-12-69. It is Verdero Green w/ the M21 4 Speed, buckets, console and drum brakes and AM Radio. Very plain but a good runner. Again thanks & if anyone has any info on these cars it is appreciated. Marty

Well hello guyz:

I have a '70 455 Ram Air Convertible with 4spd.

- they were built all throughout the model year and ordered early as well. The factory literature (accessories catalog available at all dealers) mentions the Air-Inlet Hood option from the very beginning.

- I found one of the mysterious 7040279 carbs that CARBKING and others swears did not exist. Was it a fake? I questioned it enough (based on CARBKING's post on my CP thread almost 2 years ago) that I didn't purchase it. It was for sale on Ebay about 7 months or so ago and was mounted on a totally rebuilt WA 455 block with #64 heads. The dates did not match on the carb, heads, and block (nowhere close) so I couldn't get a feel based on date codes. The ebay seller claims to have one of these carbs on his car as well. He claims that these are the only two he's ever seen. Is he telling the truth? Who knows. That doesn't even begin to address the even rarer (if they exist) California EE carbs 7040573!!

- Yes Judges were available with 455. There is NO EVIDENCE that the Ram Air came standard on these vehicles. This is where the PHS comes in handy. If there is a seperate charge for the Air-Inlet hood then the DID NOT come standard. If there is no seperate charge then .... well you get the picture! I've never seen a PHS documented 455 Judge so I can't speak from experience.

- I'd love to get a copy of Lloyd's build sheet. I'm working on starting a '70 GTO 455 site and all the info would be helpful.

Well gotta go. Great post.

Phil

P.S. My car is in Customer Rides on this site. Atoll Blue.

Can anyone else give me more hints for the missing information? Once again, this is a Fremont built 1970 GTO, 455 Ram Air auto A/C, assembled 11/11/69 best I can tell.

Mucho thanks to Mike (held for) Ransom for his assistance.

Phil, if you have YOUR build sheet, would you mind posting it here and/or send it to me?

bellauto@birch.net

I'll do what I can to get more info off of mine for your '70 GTO 455 site.

Many thanks!

Phil or Llyod:

If you read this: in regards to the site Phil mentioned, wasnt there a fellow in POCI mag advertising for info about 455 GTO's?
Is this Phil or someone different?
I send him my info but dont recall getting any reply. May have missed it.
70 RA 455 auto GTO Burgundy/ Black top/Black interior missing original motor but have an original, was running WA 455 which is 4 speed motor.
Anyone want to trade for a 70 YA 455 with 64 heads?

I am also looking for the 2nd or 3rd owner who lives in Missouri and owned many GTOs and is older fellow. I bought five years ago from a man that worked at a days inn (Missouri) as night manager and had a 70 TA he was restoring. I will look his name up and post if I can find. He said other older fellow had the "build" sheet from this GTO. I will try and find out his name and see if anyone knows him.
The older fellow (65 ish five years back) had a barn full of GTO's and house full of Pontiac stuff he said. I think he was popular in Pontiac circles in State. Ring any bells?

I bet Carb King might know who he is...or how to contact if I get his name. I will look.
Thanks in advance...Jeff

Wow, burgundy with red? It sounds odd, but I've seen a Mopar or two like this and it's sweet!
