Almost done stripping the black paint off these grills. I don’t know what I put on there 30 years ago, but it’s some good stuff. Used a whole quart of stripper. And I thought it was gonna be a 20 little minute scuff job!

Cool

Took the Le Mans convertible out to meet with my VW group last night.

Was reasonably well-received, some took interest in it and others didn’t care or really know what it was.

Was about a 20 mile round trip which is the furthest it’s been from home in a couple decades and it performed flawlessly, almost too civilized.

I took the opportunity to top off the tank at Costco on the way home so I can start figuring out what the fuel consumption is.

Yesterday I went to a local cruise in in a small town up the road. My friend organizes it. He’s been on me forever about coming, and I never have, as I’m not really the standing around in a parking lot type. BUT I promised him I’d come this year.
Good time! 93 cars showed up, not bad for out here in BFE. The local fire department and EMT have a burger and brat stand with great food.
We bought a little ride on car for the kids we know would be there.
My drool over car was the green Coronet. I’d drive the heck out of that, and it already looks beat enough to be mine.
I took the LeMans, my son was taking a nap, so the GTO stayed home.

I put new springs in my 62 Safari.

I want to punch the GM engineer in the face that put a nut on top of the rear spring perch in a completely un-serviceable location. Why you wouldn't put a weld nut up there is beyond me.

Not my Pontiac but I saved the transaxle and the engine went to a friend. The car was in a landslide so pretty hammered and going to scrap. Doors, fenders, seats and a few other items were saved.

My poor 62 LeMans has been so neglected sitting behind the shop. A good friend stopped by last weekend and shamed me badly for how bad it looked. Pressure wash wasn't enough to get it looking better, I had to hand scrub it. It was well worth the hard labor.

Sanded the top of the grills to get the clear anodizing off, looked like crap, gave it a light polish. Got some SS fender washers, to cover those unsightly oversized holes, and gave them a polish.

Ordered a cam and lifters from Summit and Butler, respectively. Boy, I remember when you could buy a cam with lifters for $100 from Summit, and it wasn’t a big to do to break it in. Showing my age I guess.
Shout out to Jim Hand and his son for a cam recommendation too.
Looks like it’s rain tomorrow, so if I can get some things done around here, I may take one of the Pontiacs out for a spin. Beautiful 70 degree day right now.

Thumbs up

Local Cars and Coffee this morning.

Pretty good turnout with it being Memorial Day weekend.

Not sure if my dog or the car was a hit, well actually both were.

According to my wife his father was a Papillon (butterfly dog) and we’re not exactly sure what breed his mother was but suspect she was a Maltese from what others have told us.

He was born and raised in China, he was part of the deal when I brought my Chinese wife to the USA.

Menduner (pronounced “mender” which roughly translates to “fat boy” in Chinese) will be 16 years old in July. My wife has had him since he was 4 weeks old and I’ve had him in my life for about 12 years.

Went to the local cruise night with my '63 and ran into an old friend. We hadn't been in touch in over 40 years. He recognized the Bonneville, and I recognized him. LOL... We went to high school together, and later, went to car shows (me, with the Bonneville, and he with his '64 Impala - which he still has).

Neat evening, which turned into dinner.

I went 50 miles to car show in Casino nsw , great little turnout of imported and downunder built Holden's , Fords and Chryslers.
The local area mustang club makes it a big deal for them and take a full side street for the club.
The plastic late model units number about 15 , classic mustang cars about 5 units.

I'm thinking about taking the hood off, Pulling the spark plugs and adding some Marvel mystery oil to the cylinders again.

Bought it! Haven’t had a Pontiac for 7-8 yrs. I was playing with 62-66 GMCs, I’m stoked.
