I had today off so I kept chipping away at the rear end project. Fabbed up some brake line brackets for the axle tubes and extended the 12 bolt brake line mount. The upper control arms were suppose to be here today, but they're MIA via FedEx which threw a wrench in my plans, but I got the rear in place anyway supported by the jack. I'm still held up by the brake lines anyway. I ordered a set for a 12 bolt Chevelle, but I have a feeling they won't work with the Moser upper ears and I may be bending my own.

Got the Tri-Powered '59 GMC out of the barn, dusted it off for a short ride.

Bought a barely used radiator from HISGTO, but I can't stand the look of a bright silver aluminum radiator. This thing was pretty highly polished on the tanks and sides. I scuffed the polished areas with some 220 grit, and then cleaned it with brake fluid. Now it looks much better to me...hard to believe t's the same unit. It cost me about $25 and less than an hour of my time to black it out. Much cheaper than having it anodized.

I have been to busy working on the cars to post what i did to them.
Red car: 1. Replaced the 30 amp generator with one of the 90 amp Powe rMaster alternators that are in the 30 amp generator body. 2. Replaced the trunk and door lock, I was starting to have trouble with the key. 3. Replaced the old T3 headlights with the modern sealed beam that are still marked T3. White car: 1. Raised the Tri-Power gas line feed farther from the engine. 2. Changed the shut-off valves at the gas tank from 1/4 to 6AN valves. Hopefully that will cure my fuel starvation at the big end of the strip. 3. Door lock on the drivers side kept flopping part way out of the door. Replaced the lock securing clip inside the door. Working on a new windshield for the red car.

Finally got one of the Pontiac’s out!
Got my Mercury that I did the engine rebuild on drivable now. So pulled it out and swapped positions in the garage with the ‘63 LeMans. Lemans is running great since I ditched the Pertronix and worked on the ignition over the winter. It’s still a detonation machine with the high compression ‘69 engine with unknown Comp cam.s camshaft. I believe next winters project is going to be going over that engine, and see just what grind cam is in there in favor of a wide lobe separation factory type grind. Anyway, with my sixteen year old helping me out in the garage so much lately, I let him take the LeMans out by himself for the first time.

That was AFTER a lecture on how bad detonation is for an engine. I was 16 once too ya know!
Told him to keep his heavy foot out of it. The GTO is set up for beating on, the LeMans with the stock transaxle, and detonation prone cam,not so much.

Got the Q-jet back together after refinishing. Made a deal for a HSD intake.....not sure yet what to do with it.....it's excellent....brand new even.....no box but obviously never used.
Going to dyno the engine with 2 different intakes, and wondering if I should make it 3. Ported '72 HO, Ported RPM, wondering if I should port this HSD or no cuz it's new? Maybe I'll find a nice untouched used or mint one and port THAT. Will be interesting to see numbers regarding intake swaps. |

Installed new brake lines, bled the brakes. Happy that the Chevelle brake lines fit no problem with a little modification of the brake line bracket. Put the car back on the ground and got the pinion angle in the ballpark by adjusting the upper control arms. Just waiting on the new driveshaft and I should be ready to roll.
