Bit Trek fan here too. And let's admit it, as ground breaking and influential as the show was, Nichelle Nichols was one of the hottest TV stars around! Yum!

Very envious of those signed photos!

I believe I read in one of the Star Trek books (about the making of the series) that Nichelle Nichols had a fling with Gene Roddenberry.

It was really a stretch back in the 1960's to have a female portray an officer on the bridge of a ship. Until then, females played the wives of captains, or mistresses, not involved with ship operations.

Roddenberry wrote the original Star Trek pilot and cast a female as First Officer (his future wife, Majel Barrett, who ended up portraying Nurse Chapel in the original series, and Lexwana Troi in the The Next Generation, as well as the supplying the voice of the ship's computer), but screenings showed that audiences were uncomfortable with a female in that role.

He then created a character called Uhuru, a black female (which was very controversial) as the Communications Officer. While many critics, decades later, claimed she was nothing more than a glorified secretary that took phone messages, her character was much more than that. She was a bridge officer, and commanded respect from the rest of the crew.

I loved almost all of the Star Trek franchises. Some took a little time to solidify, though...i.e. Sisko had to shave his head and grow some facial hair....Voyager had to move beyond the Kazan, etc.

But, Jeri Ryan......wowza!!

Looks like someone severely underestimated the strength of that chain!

It went all the way through and hit the door jamb and then bent the back half of the car! I don't even want to know what happened to the driver.

Default Street machines from the mid-80's

My older brother sent me some scanned photos of local cars from my home town from the early 1980's. Most of the cars were my older brothers or his friends. The black '68 GTO was my first car....didn't know the photo existed. Several of the photos are from a road trip to the Street Machine Nationals in Indy.

I was looking through an old photo album last night that I had not seen in years.I found this pic from around '83. My "girlfriend", brother in law, and my '73 GP.

I gotta ask, How did those pumps pump the different octanes? Were there separate tanks of octane booster that mixed in as the gas was pumped? Surely there was not a tank for each octane offered. I remember those pumps but never used one.

As I recall, they had a tank full of the cheap stuff (190-200) and a tank full of the good stuff (260). In between, you got a mix of the two.

My dad worked at Muldoon's Sunoco in Scotrun, PA as a second job around 1981....they had a standalone pump for that still-newfangled "unleaded" stuff. It was only like 85-86 octane!

Sunoco was the main retailer of the custom-blended gas. The remaining stations around here that were custom-blend Sunoco now sell custom-blends of E10 and pure gasoline- 10% ethanol, 5%, 2.5%, 0%- with octane ratings of 87 - 93.

My first car was the exact same car (far as I can tell) 66 Tempest 2dr, same color, 326, 2bbl. Bench seat, 2 spd auto.

Was actually a great car, just enough go, easy to take care of, pretty good mileage. I plowed it into a light pole my senior year of HS

Close! She has the OHC 6 with SPRINT Option.
When new they ran best with SUNOCO 260

If I could have any car back ... it would be that aqua colored 66 tempest. I'd leave it bone stock and just drive it as much as I could.

Came across a 1967 movie on TCM called "Hillbillys in a Haunted House". A country music trio was driving this dolled up 67 Bonneville.

Talking Yippy Ki Yay M***********

That little Gem was likely one of the many Pontiac's "customized" by Nudie Cohn for the Country elite.
IIRC the well known Roy Rogers Pontiac went across the block a few years back.

Here's one I came across with singer Webb Pierce and his new 1961 conversion.

I believe Kid Rock now owns one of the Nudie customized '63's.

Here are some Nudie Cars (There are other Pontiacs, but I can't find my Pics of them right now). He also did Nudie Suits for tons of country and rock stars in the early 70s. Sorry, but I love this stuff. It seemed so bad at the time, but now I miss it.
