Yeah yeah -

The intake has three pairs of carbs being built Tom. You can choose which one you like best. I have to start somewhere and I choose to do the most difficult first.

;o)

I'm listening Gentlemen. Making statements with no input doesn't help much. I know the Dominators are over kill, but they could be tuned down to 750 CFM.

IMO,having done many RA Vs for the street the lazy ports need a vac sec carb.Ford with their TP and high and med riser engines used vac sec holleys with the pods hooked together.Pontiac used a vac sec holley and could not even use a std pump squirt, they needed the 50 to keep the car from bogging. They would not have done that if not needed.I think even 660 center squiters on the street with a V would not do well.I know one of my engines did not like them even on the dyno.FWIW.And in a race deal you would not run the ram air pans IMO.Nice project but a pair of 427 Med riz holleys would be my first and maybe ONLY choice.Tom

Thanks for the input Tom as it's always appreciated. Currently, I have a pair of 600 in line Holley carbs with mechanical 2nds. It's the first set of carbs I built. I've looked into the vacuum pods and are a bit difficult to find. I will continue the search as per your advice.

Besides that. With the carbs turned sideways, the bowls hang out to about the end of the intake. This makes it tricky to come up with mounts that don't run into things like linkage, fuel lines and such.
On my dragster, I have a lower plate the scoop mounts to.
(long rectangle basically)

I used a 'L' shaped bracket from the end of each head to the bottom of the plate.
(the smaller part of 'L' bolted to the plate)

The one bracket even mounted/braced the cable for the throttle.

In this pic, you could do a couple of these brackets you made on each side?

Wow I would like to see a better pic of that if you would. (Looks pretty cool) Thanks.

Blueghost -

What angle are you looking for?

John -

I'm always open to suggestions as far as brackets goes. I'm still designing at this stage. I wanted to run a V shaped bracket from the center intake bolt hole but there are too many things in the way. Pushing the brackets up front and to the rear are pretty much the only solution. Well, other then trying to bolt and bracket the RA Pan to the carbs - which still may be an option. It's just that I want to try and not drill holes and tap into the carb bodies if I can help it.

I still need to verify the hood clearance in the area where the post stick up, but I think it will work. There are so many factors that come into play when doing crazy crap like this. The whole point of this exercise is to do a "what if" Pontiac made this - kind of nut job car for the street. Pontiac al la Carol Shelby.

I'm trying my best to use vintage parts and get the look and feel of that era as much as possible. Is this a balls out 1/4 mile car that will smoke most cars? Hell no. This is a show car that I drive and sometimes drive a bit too hard. It's not being designed to compete on the track. It's designed to have a bunch of fun with on the street spanking rice rockets with kids in their 20's. Show them what old school power is all about.

right?

Here are a few more shots, but of the opposite side. As you can see, the mounting flange guess is off position.

Had some good progress this weekend, but I'm finding out it takes longer to set things up then it does to make part changes. So I bought this big ass pipe cutter off some guy on eBay and wound up cutting 20 parts total. I even had to make a leverage tool off the CNC in order to stop blowing my wrists out trying to rotate the stack in the cutter. Once I got that figured out, other difficulties encountered was stopping the cutter from making threads. I finally figured out how to groove the part from the scribe stage and cutting the part was quite simple.

I also had to make a table saw to cut notches in the bottom of the stacks for fuel squirters. Then, a final freehand cut and clean up with a wire wheel.

Overall, I only boogered up one stack as it was the mule for the rest. I've been dreading and pondering how to address this and a large pipe cutter was the clear solution after much thought.

This morning, I finally got the chance to cut an acrylic lower Ram Air Pan off the laser table. I needed this in order to figure out where the carb bowl screws hit the underside of the pan. That and seeing through the part to understand how to bend the brackets that hold the part on. This also allows me to check fitment much more accurately then cardboard.

Any day is a good day to talk about what we love. Thanks so much for reaching out in reaction to the hobby. Been working on a lot of projects - trying to prioritize work and play. Pleasure speaking with your insightful spirit as well. Was going to send you some pics off line but can't seem to find your number off list.

Will strike up the wheel of fortune again soon as the season of reason is upon us.

best
mike~!
