To gain perspective on the scale of the Quad pan, I purchased a 1969 GTO RA IV pan foam seal as I model the seal for one of the versions of the pans. To say the least the VI pan dwarfs the GTO pan seal...

I believe I will wind up making 4 to 6 different ram air pans for this project at worst case. I'm trying to universitalize this monster as much as possible so it can be shown in many different configurations. So far, I had to shorten the front of the pan by a fat 1 inch due to the fact that it's rubbing on the upper radiator hose. Sawing the hose in half with the pan is not exactly what I want to happen, but this creates space issues for the foam seal and air cleaner. That is forcing me to design a separate pan for just the air cleaner set up with no foam seal. The other configurations dictate how the pan needs to be customized for each carb mountings. For example; the inline carbs need recessed holes cut in the pan on the right hand side of the air horn. This is to clear the vent drains for the carb bowls. Usually you have a raised neck around the air horn for clearance, but due to the compounding height restrictions, I need every little bit of room. Once I confirm the total overall height, I may have some play in redesigning to make less parts.

One thing for sure is the 1966 GTO tripower water neck will not work as shown in a shot attached.

Here are the three different vacuum fittings I acquired this morning to address the house routing issues.

This weekend, I will be working on the final design stage of the "Simplexatron" intake system. This allows for many incarnations of induction.

I think you should call it the Complexatron... It looks anything but simple...lol
Seriously, very impressive work...

Yeah, you would think so Greg, but after I work out all the design and engineering challenges, I will be simple. Yes, this is a very complex project that shall be simplified as much as possible. I think I have narrowed down the project to 3 to 4 pans at this point.

So many things to consider building a one off set-up. Here is this evenings challenge. Trying to figure out how to mount this hat to the monster...

I've been fighting the fitment of these crazy velocity stacks for some reason. I guess because there are size variables in the manufacturing process, each stack fits differently. Kind of sucks, but I guess this is what I have to work with.

I have seen aluminum 66 Waternecks that were cut and lowered and then tumbled (after welding) and you could not tell that they had been modded. Easy to remove an inch without much effort. But you need a new aluminum one.

Thanks Tom for the insight. If I run into problems with the water neck, I will look into that option.

I finally came up with a height combination that will fit under the hood. The factory intake with the Ford air cleaner will fit under the hood. With that bit of information, I mocked up the quad intake to the exact specifications, leveled the intakes to match and started to build up.

In order for the quad to fit under the hood, I had to cut the velocity stacks by .75 inches. This gives me the exact height requirements as the factory set-up.

I almost pissed my pants because I was not 100% sure if this would work.

check it out...

It is always simple after it is done, LOL Greg! Don't I wish!

Great Job, 428RA4

Hey -

Cutting the 3/4 inch stack was actually very easy.

The problem is the math to get to that number. Engineering and Design sometimes is luck, but some luck is made. You come up with an idea, you think till your brain wants to puke, and then you spend sleepless nights pondering your sanity....The wife walks in, and taps you on the head, trying to unseat your fancy as you wake from the eather.

I'm making the impossible - possible because I thought it would be cool for everyone to enjoy...Nothing more, nothing less.

For those who enjoy the craft of car art, I hope you have enjoyed my journey as WE complete the implementation of said thing. I'm far from done and there will be additional challenges ahead that surly cost me X amount.

Thanks for the support and enjoy...

Definition of luck- Where opportunity is met by preparation.
Don't sell yourself short...That's good work and nothing lucky about it.
