When you start the car, does the choke plate open? it should open about 1/8 to 1/4 inches. Sounds like your choke pull off may not be working.

Has this been corrected?
If the engine cranks and dies immediately after firing, it could also be an electrical problem. While cranking, the coil gets the full 12V. After you release the key to the run position, the voltage is reduced by a resistance wire to extend the life of the points. If the resistor wire is open, the car will crank then die as soon as you move the key out of the crank position. Mike |

I think the last time I saw this happen, the engine would probably hit 1000 rpm if you hit the throttle just as you let off the key.

I'm curious as to what the problem is as I'm sure you are also. That's the problem with some of these threads, not enough information to effectively diagnose the problem.
