I think people that didn't spend on the money on the GTO had the extra money to spend on other cool stuff.
One of these days I'll dig out some pictures of my 68 .. just your average Verdora Green, black top, black interior, console, auto, PS, PB, AC ... standard 350. But I thought it was a sharp car. And ... didn't have to worry about how fast it was, nothing to prove. Just a cool, comfy car at the drive-in. Started every time and I didn't have to worry about funny noises coming from the engine compartment |

Back in the 90's there was a guy who used to go to the POCI nationals with a 69 LeMans two door hardtop with a 350 2bbl with an M20 set in a console, all original with original docs. very nice car, it was Expresso with gold buckets and Rallyes with no Cordova.

It would be rare to find an original car like you describe with a 4 speed. Look at the frame with the hood open and look at the frame end of the bell crank. Does the weld look factory or home boy.??? Does the column have any remains of the original shift linkage ??? Is this the original motor?? Could it have been a 400 car?? Or has the 350 been replaced with something else??? It's really hard to tell with these cars this old unless you get the VIN an contact the Pontiac historical society.....

The 68-72 z bar frame bracket is bolted not welded like 64-67.
No 400’s in LeMans before 1970.

A guy that I work with occasionally likes to tell me stories of his 69 LeMans he had in the early eighties, white 350 2bbl 4speed and how surprisingly fast it was and how he totaled it taking out a gaurd rail.

You got a Saginaw 4 speed with the OHC 6 and 326 or 350 2 bbls. 4bbl cars got Muncies. It was a matter of how much torque the engine put out.
The Dearborn 3 speed trans was very strong and could handle 400 4bbl power. |

Early 2bbl cars may have had Saginaw 4speeds (I didn’t look it up) but the A body 4 speed in 69 for the 350 2bbl was the Muncie.

Well we may know soon. I got this car home this week but have not had a chance to look at it yet. Plan to order the PHS info next week.

I meant to say earlier model years in my previous post. The Muncie m20 was the only 4 speed offered in 69 Abodies with the 350 2bbl. Unlike with the Firebird the Abody cars only used Muncie 4 speeds, even for the OHC.
btw, the PHS will tell you if it was a 4 speed or not but it won't identify which transmission per say since the Muncie and Saginaw both sdhared the M20 sales code. A buildsheet would identify the UPC code which tells you the exact trans that was installed.

I'd love to have a Lemans with a 2bbl and a six speed gear box, with over drive and a 3.73 rear.
I have to avoid this thread, which makes me want to finish the GTO sell it and get a Lemans. |

Yeah, except for the 400 4bbl, it has better options than my GTO...lol
Do you know what the axle ratio is Kyle?

Because of the Muncie AND AC my money is on a 3.23.

Nice options and nice colors. The standard axle for a 2bbl with manual trans was 3.23 with or without AC. Car would definitely feel quicker than a typical automatic version running 2.56-2.73 gears.

btw the ride and handling in a LeMans netted you the GTO spec 1" swaybar (instead of the standard 7/8") and the same shocks as the Ram Air-Judge GTO's . Funny they'd order all that good stuff like the munci, STT, discs etc but no 350 HO which only cost $65 more or at least duals for $30.
