a friend of mine lives near St. Clair, MO so we are travelling (1 hour) and having an Eclipse Party.

I didn't buy any special glasses because I don't plan to look at it.

I need my eyes for another 20-30 years and won't take a chance that a $5.00 pair of glasses will be effective at protecting my eyes.

Besides.....pictures of it will be all over the news and internet for a week after it happens.

Supposedly if you have a welding helmet (14 UV or higher) that will suffice. You could argue a welding helmet may be more fashionable that those paper glasses I'll be in my back yard anyways....

I've seen solar eclipses before. Ya seen one ya seen them all.
No offense, but people go nuts over these things.

I'm close enough. Lot of people in rural areas to the south of me that are gonna be surprised when they can't go home because there's no fuel left in these rural communities.

I live right in the totality field. Our boss invited us all to his house on the lake to enjoy it and watch. The amount of people coming in to the area is kind of crazy.

100% coverage here also. That's all we hear on the news. The glasses have been sold out in most places and where they have them they're going for crazy money. I've heard of up to $20 per pair. Mine were given to me by a business that I do a lot of business with. A Day's Inn close to here was getting $800 per night over the weekend until they sold out. The cities are advising to store water in jugs, your bathtub, etc. as they expect to run out of water.

Lunacy...Of course, an enterprising soul could make a lot of money with a truck load of ice.

Looks like it will be clear skies here - not so lucky in some of those sold out states.

We are in Savannah for a vacation right now. Yesterday, during a morning architectural tour, I met a couple from London vacationing in the US for 2 weeks. Their main reason for coming over was to see the eclipse.
The news should be interesting after the eclipse runs its course. Very interesting....

I can stay here and see 90%. In 1970 I saw 100%.
I'll probably observe using a proper welding filter, no high-tech cardboard glasses for me. I'll also have a radio station cranked that is playing the complete Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album during the event.

I'm sure that will be happening in locations across the country, but not at my place.

I'll stay in AL and if it gets dim while working, i may take a look.
