I would love to see this car saved,, as would the owner, but I think he is asking too much for the car in this condition. Maybe someone with a lot more skills and dollars than me will save it.

Really doesn't matter what you buy it for, the resto will cost an order of magnitude more. Anybody trying to justify buying and restoring this car on an investment basis should think long and hard.

Does he have all the missing glass moldings?

He might be able to pull $7500 out of it if he carefully and patiently parted it. You'd have to have a screw loose to buy it for that much. But I pretty much know I have multiple screws loose when it comes to old cars and I'm sure I'm not much different than many of you here on that count. Hopefully if somebody bites the bullet on it, they will have deep enough pockets to return it to at least some semblance of its former glory.

Did you get a pic of the Data Plate, kinda curious where it was built? Near as I can make out from the EUN, it was a pretty late build.

If I was him, I might try to get on "Garage Squad" 'cept I think he's too far away. Heck, if it was just barely drivable and he showed up at a cruise spot, who among us '64 fans wouldn't be poring all over it, checking out every last detail? I know I would.

this is the issue for me; unless you're simply so wealthy that you're looking for ways to spend your money, this car is simply too far gone to make the 'investment' in restoring it a reasonable choice. the real disappointment is that someone saw value in it enough to keep it, but simply let it waste away in a field somewhere with no protection from underneath. at this point, it's worth less than it might have been in the past. i'm sure the owner had few options to maintaining it's condition, but at this point, keeping it as he did looks like the worse choice. it's a shame to see a real tri-power, 4 speed car rot away.

Well, in some ways a good thing because that's one less around and the value just goes up for those of us who have good ones. Lack of inventory drives the price up. I would have rather seen that one taken care of but still a positive side to it, I guess.

John V. It was a Pontiac build, 1st week of June. Built this week 53 years ago. Happy Birthday GTO! I can post a pic when I get home.

Put it on ebay, zero reserve. This is one for God to decide. If no bids, do a dollar a hammer blow fun night.

the issue is, the custodian of cars like this still feel there's great value in them. they simply do not know the restoration costs to calculate in to realize this is an upside down proposition once complete. this car needs to go cheap or it won't go at all.

Apparently all the numbers matching stuff (and the title) is still there. The worth of the car is putting all the numbers matching stuff in a 64 Lemans car and swapping out the GTO VIN tag and other identifying stuff to the Lemans. Sell the remaining scraps of the GTO stuff and crush the GTO for scrap metal.

No hammer deals on a Pontiac
Do a silent public auction, here, like they do at Pontiac events. Doing this allows everyone to see what current high bid is...

Seller needs to come to grips with the fact that he owns a pile of scrap, not much more...

Reel fun, I hope you can buy it (obviously cheap, I'm thinking $1000.00), maybe pass it on to a true Pontiac enthusiast, so that the current owner doesn't to something to it or with it that would not be desireable to any of us on this thread.

Doug, I hope you are joking. What you are suggesting is highly unethical and ILLEGAL.

The correct way to repair this car, is to use the firewall with all tags attached, and weld it to a good shell. Also, use as many parts that can be salvaged. Hopefully, the frame isn't shot.

This is a true shame, for sure.
