Correct, it is not a normal tap. You will screw up the threads using the wrong tap naturally.

Well it's been on the back burner for awhile. However, I've got this running now to test a few things.
Still waiting on the wideband Dave ordered but have jetted till it puffed a bit black then leaned back one jet. Throttle response is very good even at startup so perhaps a tid rich. Idle is very good and transition when in gear is smooth. I need to "chain" the motor mounts lol. I got boost... It was stalling around 1800 and raised to @2200 quick and was showings @2.5 lbs boost. (I had put the trans yoke in and a 1"+ thick pry bar through the yoke.and against the frame. It was bending the bar!!!) Definitely need heats sheilding...stainless heats fast yeow! The distributor is a non advance unit and has two magnetic pickups . They trigger the MSD fine. I need to check the timing difference. It looks like @ 10 degrees. I only have one wired in and timing set at 20 for now and it seems happy starting after hot heat soak. I'd like to set up a switched retard (2 switches...1 momentary toggle for start and one Hobbs set to × amount of boost) so this can cruise with a greater amount of advance and retard under boost conditions. Wish this was an OHC6 but it's Dave's toy. He has a stronger block, forged crank, and adjustable rocker setup should he decide he wants more power. I have an old Rajay(and an assortment of turbine housings) that would make at least double the power of what's on there now. I'll get more pictures this week. |

Want to clear up the thread nomenclature. 1/4-20 is standard--1/4-28 is fine (UNF)--
1/4-32 is extra fine (UNEF). It is by no means strange or special as TV & 69gto intimated. Just a $2.00 hardware store carbon steel tap. $58.00 for a genuine Holley tap! No thanks. Bruce: When developing our turbo kits back in the 70s, we fount that the closer the boost pressure line was to the fuel bowl, the better the boost compensated fuel pressure regulator would do it it's job of keeping the pressure differential of the fuel bowl more linear. In other words, fuel pressure tracked boost pressure at exactly 1:1.

My point was Ken; some Tap and Die Sets do not come with 1/4-32 UNEF) taps.
If the person does not know much about Taps and Dies then they might assume that a tap in the set will do the job and ruin a perfectly good carb casting in the process. Once it is screwed up, very hard to "fix it". I have no problem with your post, Not implying that the 1/4-32 tap could not be easily acquired, just saying THAT tap may not be the one included in the Tap and Die set the person has. I also agree that $58.00 is a lot of money for a Tap, even a "Holley" one. Tom V.

Thanks... Wish it was early Pontiac and OHC 6. However this Dodge is sharp when it's together.

Still cool. I like the old Dodges like that. You do not see many.
