Rhetorical question to those who may have asked a similar question of Jim M. in the past . . . how should I approach him to see if he would research this car for me?

No VIN, of course . . .

HAHA, I'm not sure that will happen. Better chance would be if Fred Simmons is still alive, would still help, and can.

Well, I'm working a couple of other angles, if those don't pan out then Fred is next on my list.

Cool story Lloyd. Can easily see that happening just the way it was written.

Fred is alive and well. Not sure about the willing part.

Unhappy

Well, the good news is that Mr. Simmonds is willing to help out. The bad news is that he's afraid that he'll be at a dead end without the VIN.

I have a call in to Jim M. to see what he can do, but . . .

In the mid-late 80's a car claimed to be a brass hat loaded factory Ram IV GTO factory A/C was advertised in Hemmings Motor News, and pretty sure it was in Texas.

I never called to ask about possible documentation / buildsheet / specific info.
I wasn't looking for an Automatic, it just perked my attention / skeptism.
Thats all i remember about it.

And this would have been just before 1-800-PONTIAC / free PMD Invoices became public as well.

At minimum, sort of like the "Y" 455 SD test car, seems like the PMD/PHS Invoice would reflect the Ram IV once car was sold to a dealer when Zone was finished.
Such a car likely would have caught some traveling gossip since then.

More food for speculation

I'd love to see it - would be great to hear from Fred again too! I'm glad he's well.

Wow! Another "clue" - mucho thanks for that lead, Todd.

Now - since I've long ago hauled off all my HMNs for recycling, could / would someone who still has a stash old old issues from the 80s volunteer to search the ads?

Many thanks in advance!

OK - I'll pay a $100.00 "finders fee" for whomever finds that ad, scans it and e-mails it to me.

Someone has just gotta have old Hemmings Motor News from back in the 80's!

HELP!

It also seemed like back then, that a lot of the 'rare' cars were listed in HOT ROD and Car Craft?

Possibly be in there also?
Or Smoke Signals?

I bet Gary has a stack of Old Hemmings; but getting him to go through them is a different story!

They're probably over at the old house.

i do have every old hemmings for at least 25 to 30 years. if i knew what month and year i would look it up (and would pass on the finders fee), but digging thru and reading evry old ad, no i would rather pull out the old playboys and read them.

this picture was taken around 86 or 87, man oh man, those were the days, that driveway would change weekly. every night whoever was over at the house, usually around 10:00 or 11:00 we would pick one out and go out and thrash the living crap out of it. back then that was way out in the country and almost never were any cops out there and we would line them up and drag race, do killer burnouts. wow again those were the days.
