It is still a factory race part and is the only 4cyl intake with no heat riser.

Options for an aluminum manifold on these cars are just not there, and this part still looks a lot better than a cut up 4bbl piece.

These cars were raced in a compact endurance class at Daytona and Marlboro, so there is the historic significance.

Here are two videos of the Marlboro 12 hour:

Cool historical videos. What is significant about the Tempests running these events? Who was the sanctioning body? Record setters, stand-outs, successful marketing, etc.? I owned a Corvette that placed twice in economy/endurance races back in the day, but it was just another 327/4spd Corvette.

Few pictures added for future reference...

.
SCCA at a minimum, FIA or ACCUS would have been the sanctioning body at Daytona, probably the same at Marboro as it was a 12hr endurance race. I am not sure what Pontiac was trying to prove. Reliability? Race on Sunday, sell on Monday? Smokey Yunick was involved and some photos show a few high level Pontiac executives present at these races. No record setters but 2 finished the race at Marlboro.

63 Banshee. It will be intreresting to see what kind of distribution problems you may have with the 4 barrel plenum offset like that. This is a LONG thread (but good interesting reading) for a guy that built and is running a turbocharged 4 cylinder Pontiac. When he first modified the TII intake in the same way that you are doing I had a feeling that he would have drastic distribution problems with the large back wall allowing fuel to fall out of suspension and eventually draining into the outside/end ports, making them run real rich. If you read his latest posts you'll see that he is experiencing that very problem. Although I am not at all convinced that it is his problem it sure seems ot fit right in. If you look at any of the aftermarket 4 cylinder 4 barrel and even that SD manifold in this discussion, they all have the plenum centered on the runner entrances. You can even see on the SD manifold how fat it is around the 4 barrel plenum and has to reduce down to the runner sizes. I just wanted to bring this to your attention as food for thought. I don't mean to mislead or throw a wrench into what you are doing. I'd love to build a 4 cylinder sometime. MArk L

Yeah, I have some ideas to counter runner length differences. As I said, the manifold isn't completed. I'm building a boosted 195, as Charlie did. Not much about the 2 will be alike. I'll have a thread on it after Norwalk.

Considered a nostalgic setup, like 4-71, but figured I should shoot for 9.99 instead. We'll see.

Back to Tom's topic, anyone have pictures of this intake installed? Pictures of it in a car back in the day are prefered.
