Ive heard of some pretty weird stuff coming from the plant in Belgium.
Perhaps this is one of their "experiments"

scoop bulges for factory 400s are 25 inches long from front of insert to back of the bulge

I measured 60cm (23.6") from edge of hood to beginning of scoop opening, as seen in the pic & that sounds about right.

Here's the original hood before I chopped it up, I took measurements just as a guide to placing the patch panel in the right place.

Since the hood is the same, 'cept for the emblem mounting holes, I will be using the hood I've got, so I still need that template to drill for the '400' emblems if anyone is willing to help.

I do however need other large items (RHS fender) shipped to me so any leads on affordable shipping will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I think affordable and shipping to South Africa wont be in the same sentence.

Find a good used one as the repros need work anyway.

I would guess that someone bought a new 400 hood and added the 350 emblems.

Did you find a stamping date code on it before you pitched it?

Sea frieght aint too bad, i bought an entire top frame with pump etc plus full floorpans & it came by ship, but i had issues with the local shipping agents, cost me $700 more than it was supposed to.

The hood was too badly rusted to see any stampings.

Holy Crap!!!!

I was looking through some pics of my project and I just realised something.

The hood I salvaged looks like an original RAM AIR hood!!!!

That makes perfect sense as to why there are no holes for a 400 emblem.
....and look at the pic, notice the bracing is cut exactly like ram air hoods. Then I noticed the hood had holes drilled in the bracing, just like for the ram air setup. Were all hoods drilled for that? How did I not notice that before?

How rare is your average ram air hood?

Was just reading this http://www.musclecarfilms.com/1969_F...ir_setups.html

I think the pieces of the puzzle are coming together. I found a 067 cam in the 350ci, that was kinda wierd.

Could this have been a 350HO with functional ram air and experimental scoop inserts?

Did I kill an ultra rare car? The car truly wasnt very salvagable, but I've got the 350 engine & I've reconstructed the hood, plus I've got the fancy scoop inserts.

So what do I do?

Do I use this 350 engine in my ohc6 firebird conv or the 400 I recently got from a 70 GP? Do I close up the 350 emblem holes & drill new ones for 400 emblems? Do I keep the open scoop inserts or sell them?

The scoop inserts look really good once cleaned up. Minor pitting but nothing too obvious.

A Ram Air 350.....seriously??

They fit unbelievably perfect!!!

I bought a pair of repop closed inserts, they needed to be filed & still don't fit all that great.

In this pic you can see the emblem holes that are much further back than for the '400' emblems. No holes were ever made on this hood for '400' emblems.
