The difference can be in how responsive a manufacturer is. I remember when Ford had an issue with 3.8 litre head gaskets they only added coverage to 100,000 miles. When Toyota had the problem with 3.0 and 3.4 litre v6's they issued an unlimited mileage coverage.

It's all about $$$.

Some companies value their owner base differently. Toyota seems to be more interested in keeping a customer for Life, not just a Quarter

Why are we even talking about Toyotas in a Pontiac forum? Isn't there a Toyota forum somewhere out there?

Chris, I have a couple of questions.
(1) Your F350, are the original owner?
(2) Does the F350 have a history of spare tires falling off the truck as the Toyota does?

Why would they recall just one ?

I have several F series trucks and haven't heard of anyone at the Ford truck forum mention any such thing ever happening Mine held on fine during several high 11 sec passes - .

Rumor I heard yesterday Mike it's not the mats but a drive by wire issue. If the mechanic I know from the dealer is correct, he said when you release the gas (pull it back with your hands) it still is winding high.
Then again, why cant they slam on the brakes, throw it in neutral or kill the ignition ?

Most people panic in a situation when the engine runs away.

MY first thought is to shut it down, It's the way I've been trained after doing what I've done for so long.

Evidently they didn't know who they were dealing with?

A guy called me on the phone at Sears saying his car needed brakes. I told him to bring it in and he said, "Okay, I think I can do that."
Sure enough he came in 30 mins later and told me to be careful because it had no brakes. I wrote that on the work order and sent the paperwork to the back shop. The mechanic went out and backed the T-bird out of the parking spot, tried to stop and it wouldn't--and he freaked because he wasn't prepared for a car that had ZERO brakes. So he dropped it back in drive to park it back in the spot, not thinking that it still wasn't going to stop--and he jumped the curb and high centered it on the landscaping. He came in red faced and freaking out because it really had NO brakes. I had no idea it was that bad, and the customer wasn't really clear that it was that bad. So the next mech was prepared and just slipped it in and out of gear to get it into the shop. Turns out the front calipers were laying in the trunk. To get them loose from the car someone cut the brake lines in two pieces. Evidently the car needed brakes for a long time because one rotor had exploded and only the lug ring portion was left on the wheel. The other rotor was in the trunk with the calipers. We fixed that car for about $700 and the repo man came to get it the next week. The bank just added the amount to the customers loan amount.

I think they are being very responsive, as they were with the Tacoma rust recall. Identified a problem, were forthright about it, made good on it. All I got when I went into the Ford dealership with my truck was a smile and an "out of warranty" smart-ass comment.

Oh & Champ, know your target before you make things personal.

I gotta say I have a 2003 Dodge ram 2500 hemi. Not a cheap truck.
I had a problem with the Defroster door breaking and making it have heat only at the defroster. NO recall even though its very common. Answer from dodge: Not a safety issue NO recall.

Then The truck starts to prematurely rust in the 1/4 panels. Again very very common in these trucks NO recall Only covered for certain amount of time and only to 100K miles.

Then my crank sensor goes bad, Dodge doenst carry them, 700 on backorder
Aftermarket doesnt have them anywhere. So My truck is useless, it will just all of a sudden shut off on you. Try that towing a trailer to E town.

The 700 have been on backorder for a year now.

No end in sight

My dodge is a great truck, and will pull down a house. The company that made it SUCKS and doesnt stand behind thier product when It does have a common failure.

all the companies are the same IMO.

Not trying to piss in anybodys cornflakes, BUT,, I work for a Toyota Dealer in Canada, And had Toyota Engineer's at the dealership for 4 hours looking at one vehicle, supposedly had the run away issue, No problems was ever found with the vehicle and had put the issue to more of a customer had too big of work boot on and was hitting both pedals at the same time. Possibly pedal is closer together than it used to be but new campaign is for shortening of the pedal???? I have read the issue with the run away lexus and the US State trooper, (I feel sorry for the people in that vehicle) But being a trooper would u not think to put vehicle in nuetral??????? Let the engine explode, who cares, life is worth more than a engine.....
