Well, I did some sleuthing on this and here is my findings.

First, pictures are of a February, 1970 cars' shroud. This is a California car and the original emission decal is located on it and has no notch (cutout).

Both of these had the notch (cutout).

Next two are pictures of the LeMans Sports' shroud. Obviously, it's been replaced.

Last two are of the current GM OTC replacements.

Conclusion, I still don't know if the '72 from years ago had a replacement or not. Maybe others can help.

Hold by my earlier findings, the notch started showing up in late '70 production & I've yet to find a single ORIGINAL '71 or '72 A-body or G-body that came with a solid (no notch) fanshroud. I don't buy the multiple supplier argument, not for shrouds produced late '70 production through '72.

Will start taking digital pics of fanshrouds casting dates.

The shroud I have with cutout is identical to the last 2 pictures so it must be a replacement shroud then. The uncut shroud has the "date" on the lh backside and the part# on the rh backside. Date is 6 dots and 70 so it must be molded june 70, right? Also says "GUIDE" after this...! The part# is 9795359, same as in my partsbook from 11-1-70. I´ll try and take some pictures and post them later.

Molded June of '70 & a notch... that makes PERFECT sense. In the case of your 02C built '70 model car, def the one you have now has been replaced, & its most likely your car originally had an "intact" (no notch) style shoud.

Will ck my '71 asm manual, believe there is a notation where the part number changed during 71 model year.

OPH, sorry but You got me wrong. It´s the uncut that is molded June `70. Strange! When looking at HFR´s first picture it says -3 wich means they had at least 3 molds, right! My 9795359 has a 2 after the part#. Could this mean that some molds was damaged and they had to cut these shrouds after they where molded. Please check Your shrouds dates. I think we can get a picture of this by the dates they where molded.

oPh, you are close, he has a 02B car.

hakansan. I'm not sure how they date coded this things, but if it is a June '70 shroud, it's still not original to your car.

HFR & OPH, i don´t have so many fan shrouds here in Sweden to look at, but I will try and get some info on dates. I think, if they where dated when molded, it´s easy to see if there are shrouds with cutouts & w/o at the same date. If so, we might be able to say when the change could be.

I just pulled an August 1970 molded shroud from a 71 Lemans, 12D Pontiac built car. It has an uncut 9795359; it also has the 2 after the part#.

It´s an old thread but...

I have a customer with a GTO -71 conv. that needed a new fan shroud. I ordered the shroud our host is listing (GME2E, 71-2 shroud 4-row) for 71-2. The shroud didn´t fit tight on the lh side and it had the upper corner cut. He sent me pictures of the original w/o cut and with tight fit. He has a 3-row radiator in his car and my first thought was that maybe only the 4-row shroud was damaged and replaced by a shroud with cutout???
Maybe thats why some have seen with cut and others not?

Anyway,
Ames and The Parts Place are listing shrouds for 71-2 3-row, not PY yet.
Anyone bought one of these shrouds and can tell how they look and maybe take pictures
of them?

Anyone now what the part# and differense there are on these shrouds?
69 3-row? (PY# GME2A)
69 4-row? (PY# GME2B)
70 3-row? (PY# GME2C)
70 4-row? (PY# GME2D)
71-2 3-row? (no PY#)
71-2 4-row? (PY# GME2E)
