As usual, a fantastic job Tom! Where did you get the engine paint? I want to repaint the valve covers on my LeMans.

I had heard real good things about Hirsch Automotive engine enamels so I popped on to their web site. They have '66-'72 Metallic Blue for Pontiacs listed. I emailed them and told them that the color changed to a light blue for '71. They replied that their records show different. I then replied that their records are wrong (in polite language!) and haven't heard from them since! Must have pi$$ed them off.

Looking to get a quart to have extra on hand ...

Thanks for the compliments, it's been alot of
time and work.

Vince,
I called Scott Tiemann at Supercar Specialties,
and he was nice enough to give me the contact
info to a paint supply business that he has
custom mix his restoration paints.
This blue is out of his personal file, that he
matched to some original paint on an engine many
years ago.
I don't know the formula, I just whined enough
to him on the phone, and he fixed me up.

You could call him, and maybe he will have some
mixed and sent to you?
It never hurt's to ask.
Later,
Tom

Looks awesome tom,

Keep the pics coming and keep us posted on your progress.

I notice you left the brakes power Leg. No Disc brake conversion? boy now would be the time to do it! Much better for driving/tooling around.

Pat

Norton70, underside of the car was undercoated
from the factory, so it was just cleaned and
freshened with a satin black similiar to the
firewall. The brackets are finished with Detail
grey/bare steel to mimic the look they would
have had from the factory.

Pat,
I'm building this car to run in the Pure Stock
Musclecar Drags, so with max-performance kept in
mind, I left the lighter manual drums. Almost
swapped it over to manual steering also, but I
decided against it.

Had the flu lately, so progress is a little bit
behind. I did get the radiator support and the
fenders on over the weekend though.
I'll post pictures as I go.

Keep up with the pics! Man that car is just gorgeous.

But then again, I am partial to '71's.

what did u use to mimic the look of cast iron / bare steel, and was it hard to shoot the underneath of the car, or do u have a rotisserie?

Norton70,
some auto supply stores carry a brand of paint
called cast-blast for the cast iron look.
If not there, try Eastwood. They carry a full
line of restoration paints to re-create the look
of cast iron,bare steel,cast aluminum,etc.

I wish I had a rotisserie, I did everything on
my back! Not fun.
Get yourself some cheap paper painter's suits
to keep the crud off you while wire brushing,
and also wear one to keep the overspray off
while your painting. Goggles caome in handy to
keep falling debris out of your eye's, unless
you have an endless supply of eye wash.
