Well I almost forgot I had to replace the cowl panel and front edge of the dash extension that the bottom of the windshield seals to. Unfortunatly I must not have taken pictures of that process or misplaced them. Replacing the cowl panel was a pain in the you know what and glad it is done. My next step after I got the rear package tray installed was to start on the inner and outer rear wheelhousings. I was impressed how well these parts fitted up to one another and the the fit to the rear and main floorpans.

Hey have a quick question about the steering. I was debating on whether to go back to the stock gear box and steering or upgrade with a rack like what flaming river offers. If I go back to stock I will need to find a steering column for a floor shift seeing mine was originally a column shift and want to change to bucket seats and center console. Any opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

So like I mentioned earlier in my post I had to put the body back on the frame so I could get the rear floor/tail panel at the correct height so the quarters, trunk lid, tail lights and rear bumper would all fit and get proper gaps. Seeing the replacement rear trunk floor is for a 68 what most people have done when replacing it on a 69 they would section it where the kick up is. I on the other hand could not do this do to the condition mine was in. Instead I had to cut the new floor at the kick up and rework it to get the fit I needed. As you can see in my pics what I needed to do.

Working on gaps and got all the welding done. Next I will get the body back off the frame and epoxy the body and then time to work on the frame.

Yes the full quarters were the way to go they made it a whole lot easier and use less filler. I got the body epoxied and took some pictures as well as stripped the frame down and sent it out to be chemically dipped so I can powder coat it.

Well I got the frame back from being dipped. I cleaned it up and powder coated it gloss black and cleared it as well. Now I am starting hanging the front suspension.

Everyone I have a quick question I was cleaning up my steering gear box that I took out of my GTO to see if I need to get a new one or not and I saw a S symbol on the cover and was wondering who the manufacturer was and whether this was a original gearbox or an aftermarket one that was put in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the S is for saginaw.

It looks original. I believe that a date code is on the flat rectangular pad. See if the date code make sense with you build date.

I believe the stamping on the plate reads 277 8. Mean anything to anyone?

I believe that should be the 277th day of 1968.

I have sent 2 boxes to powersteering.com for a rebuild and quick ratio conversion - its about $400 which isn't cheap, but I've always wanted to keep the original box but get a better ratio.

What is the stock ratio and what ratio did you change to?

Well I am finishing up on the frame, getting the suspension hung, brake/fuel lines installed and emergency brake cable setup. Just need to finish up with the gear box then I can put on the rest of the steering components.

Hmmm, that's an odd looking 10 bolt. What are the plans for the drivetrain?
