The last Pontiac ever made was the G6 in 2010, pictured with assembly line workers.

I wonder what an ad like that actually costs? Probably about the same as 30 sec on Cleetus McFarland's YouTube channel.

I was thinking that, if anything, GM could just produce a little car called a GTO. You wouldn't need the whole Pontiac thing, and they could sell it at any dealership. But with the demise of these cars like the Mustang and the Camaro, the market is shifting to a completely different product solution.
But there's a ton of value in such a well known moniker. People who don't even know anything about cars recognize the brand. I'm sure that they're always exploring their options, knowing that they own it. |

A little perspective. I was asked by the senior instructor at my school if my 62 Catalina could be used for a "prop" for the graduating class picture last week. I drove it down to the school and placed it where I was told. Class of 18 general repair technicians. Average age, 20 years old. Lots of questions. Who made that car? Pontiac?. I have never heard of or seen a Catalina? Was that part of GM? Bench seat, 4-speed? Did they come like that? I have heard of Trans Ams, was that part of Pontiac? I thought Mitsubishi made those. 4 ash trays, that's just crazy!. These students were 5 years old when the "last" Pontiac was built. They are the future new cars buyers, not the age most of us are. Why would GM bring the brand back? BTW, the students were very respectful and really liked the car, but I did see one kinda shake his head and mutter, I just don't get this car. Not so different than the way some of us feel about the new electric stuff.

I like to think of it with this perspective; What were cars like 60 years before when we were twenty?
When I was twenty, I liked cars from the 30s and early 40s as well as those from the 60s but had no desire for a Model T or brass era vehicle.

Online Fakes and photoshops etc. is on thing, a step further is a printed ad in a magazine. Dont know what to make of it, other than someone wanted to make a statement for the cost of a full page ad.

I always suspected they would use the T/A brand awareness to pump up some secret offering, likely electric and just for marketing purposes.
However, I think they rent the copyright to those fellers that convert Camaro's in Florida and sub-lease the rights from T/A racing club so I don't know how that would work. The timing is rite tho and T/A fanaticism hasn't never been hotter in the last 25 years. The Camaro is dead, the stang is un-challenged (pun intended), the vette is out of reach for commoners/pretending to be a ferrari, people who are aware of the brand have disposable income/not getting any younger, people that are not aware are not the target demo and any electric offering isn't exactly flying off the dealer lots. Never say never.

It's weird that GM would take the time and spend the money to create a full page ad in a major publication, but that said the ad itself does state it's bogus and Pontiac isn't coming back.
It's probably just some clever marketing to get people like us talking about GM.

They can try. I believe they will never get back the styling, engineering that Pontiac engineering had, never. I'm glad in one respect that Pontiac isnt around to be involved in the policy making of today. My 2cts.

That back page costs 5K plus.
GM is going the way of The "Camaro SE" ( think Mach E) The advert lists the exact hybrid combo in the new Corvette Pace car you can see this weekend at Indy. Has motors up front and 6.2 out back. Based on a couple folks I know well, it would seem that the Firebird would be a corvette driveline in a Bird body ( been done before when GM moved production of Firebirds to Canada on the Cadillac platform.) The Cadillac "race platform" is a different, more elite market as is hinted on in the video HFR posted. So, with bean counters in mind, and Cadillac skinned like a Bird, could be a mostly a parts off the shelf Idea, with low engineering costs. All depends on the economy and that depends on this next election.
