I will if someone calls and is really interested, but taking a little precaution never hurts. It is all in perspective- like I said, we have been doing this a long time. In my experience, I have learned not to assume (ass-u-me) things and jump to conclusions without investigating first. And I certainly would never bash anyone’s car, no matter what it looks like....
I don't think I said anything too out of line in the Craigslist post. Put it there because of the obvious rust issues, which is always interesting to many here in regard to whether it makes sense to restore it.
The discussion naturally tends towards a VIN tag swap because in the real world, that is exactly the kind of car a lot of people would move the tags from to a lesser valued but better preserved car. If you put the car up on the world wide web, it's going to get talked about, good bad or indifferent.
It's really not personal....it's just a discussion.

Greg- I should clarify. I didn’t mean to imply you were bashing the car. I just wanted to give you an explanation about the vin. But there have been some harsh posts- some have been deleted. I have put a lot of cars on the web, but I don’t think I have ever had this kind of reaction. No worries. It will still sell.

Almost 10 grand, and ain't met the reserve? More power to ya!

And, yes, there are several on this site, who I might consider "experts".

I suspect most people who are bidding on the car intend to do a tag swap. At 10K it makes no sense to change out all the sheet metal on the car
plus everything else that car needs to be a nice car. I get a lot of Judges in my shop
that people buy and I know they are tag swaps but I would never point that out
to someone. I think it is criminal activity to swap the tags to build a Judge out of a rustbucket but I know it goes on all the time. I heard one time that the Smithsonian has the axe that George Washington used to chop down the Cherry tree. The blade has been changed 5 times and the handle three times, but it's the real deal!

Tag swaps are just wrong, no two ways about it. Hopefully the buyer is not intending to do that.

I never gave it much thought, but I didn't think VIN tag swaps was really happening. Guess it might be because here in NY, the removal of the VIN tag can be a felony, as it should be. I can't imagine the deceit involved when an unsuspecting buyer purchases a vehicle purportedly the real deal, for which he paid top dollar. It has always amazed me at what extent some will go to for a profit. Sad, Carmine.

Hey! Don't tell people about that! I get lots of PHS's where the seller forgot to blank out the second VIN (only the PHS's that were GMAC financed have the second VIN).

My mother used to work for GMAC when she was young. She said even back then there were quite a few repo's. One of them she was able to buy & it was a 59 impala convertible. Would be a cool car to have today. She tells me it was a turd though

I have to agree that swapping vins is as low as it gets when not informing buyer which in a lot if not all states is illegal . I want to ask this question because I always thought there are three vin locations on a 69 gto. The original vin tag.,the engraved vin on cowl/ fire wall neat heater motor and on the rear frame . I remember a car show chasing classic cars when the state police in Connecticut was going to cancel show because rivets were new on vin tag.. I still think you can break even on a rebuild on this car or maybe have fun for a few years after rebuild and still make your money back. I would think a period correct rebuild on a ram air 3 judge is worth close to 50000 so 40000 budget gets you close. Doug

The car is getting a lot of attention. It has popped up on the Barn Finds site-

I read that. I know the mustang guy. It is not us. I hate that my little town has a bad name because of it.......we would never try to be sketch when selling a car. I should add, we have been at the same loacation in Celina (pop. 1500) for 25 years, and my husband is a great guy. He works hard and we don’t bother anyone. Our business would not survive in this little town if we were dishonest.

I don't know the story but what kind of idiot would condemn an entire town because of one person in the town?

There are always some people.........I love how the website copied my photos off my eBay listing. Being a CPA, copyright infringement is a tense subject for me. lol My husband puts custom exhaust on a lot of those mustangs they sell down the road. All I can say is the pipes look great when they leave here.

Think of it as free advertising. The Barn Finds site is dedicated to showcasing interesting cars for sale from all over world basically. That is something for them to think about though I guess.

It sold for under 10 000 don't think it really a bad deal for someone willing to work hard and get a little dirty. Doug
