When I first bought my car I kept all the receipts in an envelope with totals. That obviously got out of hand and now I just throw them all in a drawer since I don't want to know how much I have spent on it.

Funny thread. I have a fistful on top of the fridge, some in a garage cupboard, some in a nightstand drawer. The big bills for machine work are in a cupboard up high where only I can reach it.

I am a spreadsheet guy - I put the part, cost, and source in the sheet. I never (NEVER) total the column though. I learned to keep careful track of the spending years ago - after a driver ran a red light and hit me (hard). The receipts that I had on the car became an important part of the insurance settlement.
For photos - I organize my computer folders by stage of restoration (purchase, delivery, disassembly, reassembly, etc.). I also keep a photo log so I can find the photo I am looking for without looking through a 1000 pictures. The photo log is a bit much - but if you keep it up to date it isn't too bad. |
