I will stop by and say hello.
I will be there with my silver 68 GTO. Switched to alky last year never had any problems. I'm running a ProSystems 1100 alky carb, wish I could help. Last edited by Money Pit; 06-17-2011 at 11:30 PM. |

Gassers park in the third row in the sportsmens pits, see you there. I'm going out right now to plumb the bypass back to the tank.

Running Alky with a Electric Pump
Just a little FYI.................don't go over 8.5-9 psi on the fuel pressure it will blow right through the needle & seat!
Ditto on the Comp 250 or similar Alky pump, you need a lot of volume when running Alky. Also what I do is block the return from the pump to the cell and use a return regulator (no.10) back to the fuel cell. I haven't read through all the post so I don't know if these suggestions have been made. Good Luck at the Track! GTO George |

Ok, back from the track.
With the help of a bunch of people; We came away as Number one Qualifier in the Gasser Gang's Mod Gas class (all center steer vehicles and door cars 1970 and older) and finished in the money (way down, but did bring home some bucks!). All of the above fixes were incorrect. After much scratching of heads and contemplation, Paul notice the tops of the intake gasket was missing on the 1,3 and 2,4 runners on the intake. Sure enough that part of the gasket had been scuked into the intake. We tried silicone but it sucked that in also, then we laid wire ties across the holes and used 5 minute epoxy on top of that and the Red Green fix held for the day. Three sets of gaskets will be ordered on Monday, one for the fix and two for the trailer.

Glad you found the problem, Glenn and know exactly what caused it. So often, when I try a bunch of fixes at once, I'm not sure afterwards which one worked.
Congratulations on being in the money! Jim

1) So how did you install these gaskets? Different from the INDY passes? 2) How is your head and intake alignment? Is it parallel surface to surface? I would assume that it is ok based on the Indy flawless runs. 3) When in doubt blame it on the carb. I would keep a can of carb cleaner close by and spray around the intake the next time the carb is assumed to be the problem. Tom Vaught

Surfaces match perfect. I feel stupid. I can not tell you how many times I have told someone to take a can of carb cleaner and spray around the intake to look for a leak.

Yep that was me.
My racing conflicted with yours! Walked over one time you must have been in the staging lanes. Last time at the end of the night walked over again and you must of packed it up. The fed looks beautiful!!! The organizer for GRS stopped by to talk to me about joining, seriously thinking about it... Nice to see you take some money and #1 qualifier with that fed Pontiac Power. Me I went red in the first round of Pro...I kill it in time trials but get to pumped up come elim's trying to catch that perfect light. Got to learn to race your own race, easier said than done! |

Ok, put the last bolt in and set the scoop on it. I will fire it up in the morning. No racing this weekend as I have other stuff that needs to be done.
Intake runners were enlarged to fully cover the gasket. Gasket is Mr. Gasket #503G

We have been plagued with a close to overheating problem. I can drive to the staging lanes, make the run, drive back to the pit and be at 180 to 200. There have been may proposed fixes for the problem. We decided to go with restricting water from the front two ports on the heads, and pulling water from the rear ports. The rear ports are normally plugged. There is an adapter made to allow you to do this and it bolts onto the stock filler neck. We drilled and taped the back side of the water crossover. I have this adapter, but it would have required us to run the rear water return lines on the outside of the intake. So....
I bought brass hex head female plugs, cut them off even with the heads and drilled 1/2 inch holes in them (equal to the holes in the AN fittings in the rear). We cut slots in them so I can use a large screw driver to both install and remove them. Now the "hard" part. We could have run braided line between the fittings, and I thought about doing that, I was worried about expansion of an aluminum hard line between the fittings, but it was pointed out to me that the heads are also aluminum and should expand at the same rate. So we made up aluminum hard lines that fit exactly between the fittings. All lines are finger tight, no stress on any of them or the crossover and the bolt holes for the crossover are centered on the threads for the bolts in the heads.
