Hey Scott,
So glad to see another Pontiac getting ready for the upcoming season. You'll have a blast running the 4spd setup. It may not be the fastest nor most consistent but you can't beat the fun factor. I've been running a 4.10 gear in my GTO but was thinking of trying the .33's this year. Spend time on a chassis dyno before you hit the track. That allows you to dial in the A/F ratio across the whole operating rpm range and leave the chassis tuning to the track. Every dyno is different but you should shoot for 375-390HP at the rear wheels. Good luck with the build . The more iv's ,the merrier!! Bruno |

Appreciate the tips. The car has a 3.90 in it now; may try that out before swapping to the 4.33s. Dyno plan is to run it on an engine dyno, but good idea on the chassis dyno, too. 390 hp at the wheels is pretty stout - what is that equivalent to on an engine dyno? 450 hp? Getting closer to getting her ready; carb is supposed to be done before the end of the month, and Jim Lehart has the motor ready to go. Thanks, Scott

No oversize manifolds allowed in the Pure Stock drags and no porting or extrude honing of factory manifolds. I'm running a set of virgin original RAIV manifolds. You can run a less restrictive exhaust after the manifolds, however, so I'll run a 2.5" system with an X pipe. No drag shocks allowed, so I'll be running some worn out stock shocks up front. Not sure on the rear shocks at this point. Thanks, Scott

good stuff thanx for info men, the o.s. mannys will dq me. I also have chosen my bias belts to ride on 14 X 7's so I will have to spectate, or maybe a f.a.s.t. event? I like to spectate though, its cheap entertainment. scott I have new kyb's in rear they seem fine. the front kyb's I just removed for some adjustable koni's and they were really stiff! I mean I dropped 1/2 inch in ride height with the swap. should'nt be too hard to find a nice wore out leaky set of fronts at any yard. see anybody monkeying with their sway bars?? thats dead weight up front that I believe is required on 70's.

By attending races, looking at the cars, talking with participants and visiting the pure stock forum on v8buick, you'll quickly learn little things about the cars and many other things. Thats basically what I did. Chris

Scott,
Where is the first race going to be for your car? (and date) Jeff |

Jeff -
Good question. There's a race in NJ on 5 Sept, 18-19 Sept in Michigan, or at Virginia Motorsports Park on 16-17 October. I hope to make the Michigan event, but the VMP event is a must-attend for me; it's not too far from where I live. Have a few other cars that I've been trying to finish, so I need to get going on the GTO. Thanks, Scott

IT LIVES!!!!
Jim at Central Va Machine cranked up the motor today and held the phone up to it so I could hear it run. Put a grin on my face a mile wide. Will pick it up this weekend.
Bad news is that it's not looking good for having it ready this season; still need to swap back to original manual steering and brakes, detail the engine compartment, rebuild the M21, purchase all the ram air hardware, clutch, pressure plate, exhaust system, tires, etc... Thanks, Scott

niiiice. I remember when I got that phone call for the engine in my Olds
not ready? come on now, thats no way to talk. I know of several people who have yet to tear their cars apart to figure out what they need before beginning the thrashing for Stanton :-) My thrashing is finished, finally. Unless I break something in the next few weeks I just have some minor things to do here and there. Weather permitting I plan to take the car to a local cruise tomorrow night. One of the Pure Stock guys runs a GY PG tire buy through Kelsey Tire. It's over on the v8buick board in the Pure Stockers forum. check that out or let me know and I'll get you his info. Chris

Scott, just a heads up on the tires. The Goodyears from Kelsey are a bit more expensive than the Firestones from Coker (which by the way are now available through Summit for even less!). I bought a set of the Goodyears through Rusty on a group purchase and it ended up costing me about the same as the Firestones through Coker.
Also, I do seem to get just a bit more bite with the Goodyears and their tread is just a touch wider on a G70-14, at least on the sets that I have here. I'd be glad to lend you a set to go racing, but I don't think CT is on your way to any of the races.
