"You would think that with the demand for a T/A Pontiac V-8 air cleaner base someone would make a repro part- guess I'm going to have to go the fab route as well. Of course, one of the few parts missing on my '76 T/A is the air cleaner base.
Geno " I think all the T/A bases unded up being converted into 70-74 formula RA bases, there was a few places offering conversions I even think PY offers them.

Ben,
Why not bolt the shaker to hood? I'm not even going to to try the air cleaner base mod until I have a whole engine under the hood to make sure I get the alignment right. Geno |

I would'nt let it bug you, some times you gotta do what you gotta do,
And at least it can now be driven arround that way. It also could be a good start of a "Mad Max" theme for the car (Kidding) Its better to wait for the right part at the right price, I usually end up buying the first one I see for sale and regret it later when I find it much cheaper later on. I used to keep a coffee can in my car marked "donations" and anytime some smart ass would comment on something wrong with my car I'd get the can out of the trunk. That usually shuts up the people who talk about working on cars more than they actually work on them. You did a Good Job on getting it from "abandoned parts car" to "running project car" thats more than most guys can say.

Good Score on the Rally II Wheels with the Trim Rings
That style Trim Ring is almost impossible to find. I had white stripe tires, the quick fix is to have them re-mounted black side out if you dont like them, It only costs what they charge for mount & ballance. It would be an interesting car if restored to original, Looks like it was White with Blue lettering and Red Interior. I Do have a 70-78 rear driver side wheel spoiler you can have for free if you want it. Its aftermarket and it mounts differently than stock, I only have the one though. Post a list of what you need or are looking for maybee enugh guys on here can donate or help out with what ever else the car needs. There was a guy on Trans Am Country.com who just about built a 77 T/A from donated spare parts. I'd like to see this car have a second chance on life, low buck underdog sucess stories are kinda cool too. Anyone have an affordable Air Cleaner Base or know a good source for this guy?

Good hoods are hard to come by and deliberately ruining mine will just add to repair bills later on. Besides, I can't stand shakers bolted to the hood ;-)

Ben,
Admittedly the shaker scoop looks better on the engine- and it looks so cool when you rev the motor and it rocks over from the torque of a Poncho motor. But paying the price of a used engine for just the air cleaner base and split ring seems wrong to me- I'll fab something up before I pay $400-500 just for those two pieces. Geno |
