Bryant makes nice crankshafts, no question there. No personal experience however. I wouldn't necessarily discount a Crower billet however. We have been running their crankshafts 15 years now. Service has always been excellent, prices, fair. Delivery on a billet crankshaft 8-12 weeks and no excuses.

I can add that in years past, when we would fail bearings, it would pretty much always bend the Crower billet cranks a little. ( with some bearings dead and some still ok, the uneven clearances don't properly support the crank). We had them straightenened many times with no ill effects. Cranks werent retired until they were so far undersize that we couldn't get bearings.

Moldex makes great cranks but Bryant are considered the "best".I know Henry has been making billet cranks for a very long time.He learned his trade from the late Joe Reath. When I talked to him a couple years ago it was not stupid expensive and his lead time seemed reasonable.Let us know if you talk to him.I looked into a Bryant a few month ago and the lead time was crazy long.Tom

I’ve beat the sh_t out of a Moldex crank PA for 11 years and it held up great, lead time was only 6-8 weeks if I remember correctly. Like any race car part it depends when you order it.

Gentlemen, a FACT has been lost is this conversation: a billet crank is machined from FORGED billet. Forged cranks are red hot base metal (4340) billets forged in dies under hundreds of tons of pressure. The only reason Winberg requires 50 cranks to make a run is to recoup the investment in a CAD program and acquiring the correct length billets.

To my knowledge there are only 3 domestic companies that make domestic billet cranks. Moldex, Bryant and crower. I personally have not dealt with crower but have with the other 2. Years ago moldex was the only game in town. I had 2. Both times quoted 12-16 weeks lead time. Both times took 27 weeks. I've had 3 Bryant cranks. All times quoted 12 weeks. One time I got it in 9 another 12 and the third 14. That's why I use Bryant's now. They are all close in price so that is not a factor.

I know someone that recently bought a Moldex crank .....gundrilled and knife edged it took around 8 weeks and was around $3,400, Of course the price of steel fluctuates.

It only takes a couple of weeks to machine a crank. It just depends on where you are in the que.

That’s a good price for a custom crank. Henry made tons of Offy cranks back when they ruled IMS.

Here are a couple of pics of our Crower billet crankshaft being produced. There is a tremendous amount of waste in a round billet crankshaft. Ours starts at around 360 lbs. and finishes at about 75 lbs. Lots of material to be removed with cutters long before any grinding. They are nice pieces and have served us well.

Don't remember who made it but it was in So Cal. Destroked 4-cyl. crank to come in under 180ci. This thing sounded wild!

One of the big commercial machine shops here in Cincinnati has a 52 week backlog. Manufacturing is booming all over.....not just Winberg.
