That looks great - you do excellent work. I need to check and see what's on the Black Car. I don't want to pay TA Nat's prices at the tech line. Are you also selling direct through the Forum to avoid Ebay and Paypal fees?

BTW - I'm not sure what surprises me more. That you owned an Obama Chia Pet, or that you sold it...

Bob, Yes I sell direct. The chia pet was a Christmas gift from one of my VERY CONSERVITIVE friends. I gave him the book "The Audacity of Hope" By Barack Obama

That's hilarious and sounds like a great tradition. I think you came out well ahead as Audacity of Hope is only selling for $3.85 with free shipping.

Has anyone checked out the OER unit? It has the dimpled rivet and is item # 861050 in the Classic Ind. catalog? $35

H, Order one up and get back to us. I'm fairly certain that you won't be happy with what they send you if you want a hollow rivet cap. The actual OER site shows no cap, so with that I will assume that the cap Classic has is the Goodmark cap that all suppliers sell. I also think the picture on page 381 of the classic catalog is of a NOS part not a reproduction.

You mean they're advertising falsely? When I get a chance I'll contact them about it.

Just pokin at you a little Mike. Good laugh for my day.

Norwood, I have some original caps with the button formed rivet and some with the indented rivet and then some with the flat rivet. Seemed like a transitional change at GM over a short period of time. Tool wear or set-up differences at the assembly plant?

Both ways are correct depending on plant and time frame of production right?

Yes both are correct. I'm not determining what is correct for a specific year or car. The hollow rivet caps are the ones that go for 2-6 hundred on eBay. The flat rivet is avalible in reproduction but unless Harold proves me wrong the hollow rivet is not. The Corvette guy go crazy for the hollow rivet caps. Who am I to argue with them.

Man, I can sure think of better things to spend 2-6 hundred on. Go Fast parts or Beer and women.

This is the reply I received after I queried Classic:

"This part appears to be on long term back order. So we will not be able to pull it to obtain a picture of the rear. However the picture in the catalog is the same picture we have. Please let us know if you have any questions."

Their notes say "precise replica of original", but we've heard that before. If that's true, it might be the reason it's on backorder.

The Goodmark cap is described as "correct", and it is as there are many designs of this same part. OER doesn't show that they make s cap in their catalog , so Ya thats long term. As far as the $200- 600 cap that is the motivation for this project.

Craig - you might consider putting a "Makers Mark" on the underside of your new caps to help prevent them from being resold as NOS originals.

Although one can still see the difference between Craig's drilled pin and an original rivet. A little finesse work would make them look even closer to original.
