About 3 weeks ago we had bad smog here in central NC from the Canadian fires.
Lasted a couple or few days. I can still smell smoke on many days currently.
Wouldn't want to be up around the source.

Edit, learned something new about how this works today as well.
It is partially driver selectable.

HEPA is "active" at all times, but when bio defense is enabled it also positively pressurizes the vehicle.

from the description under the video:

"Inspired by filtration systems used in hospitals, clean rooms and the aerospace industry, Tesla's HEPA filtration removes 99.97% of airborne particulates, such as smoke, bacteria and pollen. The HEPA filtration system is active whenever climate control is pulling in outside air. For extreme conditions, Bioweapon Defense Mode positively pressurizes your cabin. This prevents pollutants from leaking in as you drive, as all air is filtered through the HEPA and gas media filters. Every new Model Y, S and X comes standard with a HEPA filter and Bioweapon Defense Mode"

I did also try switching to the recirculation mode which turns off the Bio- Hazard fast fan speed pressure mode and that actually also worked for the drive home without smelling the smoke.

I posted it up before but here is the video of the system in use the actual filters showing their size and just how much smoke (smoke grenade) they pumped into the bubble the car was inside.

https://youtu.be/Dx9wrIfqhjM

has to be one of the best features of the car, plus the keep mode where when you go into a store and it is 100+ outside the interior stays the temp you select.

ps. If anyone is interested the Mecum Auctions are being broadcast from Monterey. Motor Trend Network channel

I don't know how Teslas work, but on other EVs, if the propulsion battery is dead you still have 12v to run accessories. Not much different than an IC car out of gas, which is not uncommon out here where the DOT feels the need to shut down freeways for 3-5 hours every time there's an accident, leaving miles-long backups.

Wrong troll
The difference is the gasoline vehicle can have a gallon or 2 added and be on their way.
EV has to be towed.

There was family here that owned three Teslas. Family's three children and their friend in one of their Teslas, car accident, Tesla caught fire, windows inop, witnesses watched a all four perish because they couldn't get out. I have seen several catch fire and one actually blow up in videos. They're far from perfected.
Same here, every one I've seen resulting in fire and death at least a half dozen.
I will take my life over performance anyday.

Came across one crispy critter accident on freeway being towed away, firetruck blocking the lanes to divert traffic and an autopilot Tesla T -boned it?
The last one hit a phone pole on an expressway, caught fire killing mother and daughter.

Just from the accidents I've seen and the results, I refuse to ride in ANY Tesla.

I drive a 2016 Ford Fusion plugin hybrid, it's my 2nd Fusion. My 1st one was a 2012, last year I was T -Boned making left turn off SanTomas expy, my green light, by a fairly new Mercedes SUV. Driver never slowed down for the light. Spun me around, I want to say a 720, that's what it felt like anyway all the airbags went off. The speed limit is 45 but the average speed is 15-20 above that.
I walked away without a scratch!! Where a Tesla would have most likely caught fire.

The guy says to me why did you pull in front of me? He had no insurance. Some one on a bike had in on video with a helmet cam.

I have further comment on the Tesla drivers themselves but I reserve it.

Hmmm, i think the electric motors are darn near useless after a burn starts. So just keep walking past those U-Pull-IT EVs.

''So Elon wants to build a business that can accommodate a maximum of 32 customers at a time in one of the most expensive places in the world to operate a business. Many of those customers will overstay their welcome watching movies while tying up chargers that are not generating revenue.

Is it just me or do Elon's ideas get dumber each day?''

It's not just you. I saw a headline (didn't read the article) that said his ketamine use is out of control, and that's perhaps the reason for his erratic behavior.

EV fires: you knew somebody would see opportunity where the naysayers see catastrophe.

https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/ne...-vehicle-fires

Quote:
Now, there is a new device that punctures holes in an EV's battery, and floods it with water.

"It goes right through it. It's pretty amazing," said Battalion Chief Siler.

Arizona-based Velocity Fire Equipment is calling the device the BEST (Battery Extinguishing System Technology) system. Fire crews would push the device under where the car battery would be, and then, using air pressure, they jam the piercing nozzle through the bottom, and flood it wit water.

"As fast as 15 minutes and 500 gallons of water, the fire is out," said Todd.
