I drove the Formula to Newark today to have a friend at a local bodyshop try to remove the acid rain waterspots from the 25 year old enamel paint. And what do you know, I go to get on the on ramp to I-78 East at my exit this morning and what enters the highway a couple cars ahead of me?
I pulled along side and yes, it was a 73 Cardinal Red SD455. I wasn't close enough to read the VIN but it sounded nice. We cruised alongside each other for about 4 miles, saluted each other, and then he went south on I-287. Just when you think you have something unique on the road, someone has to immediately burst your bubble :-) So does anyone here know this car, or own it??? |

Its a Formula thing ;o Cool story Steve and you never know what you'll see when on the road. I took pictures of a all original Cord on an open trailer last month in Iowa.

Not til I get my carb back from Cliff, and my distributor back from Rocky. Right now I have the carb and distributor from my Gramma's Friebird installed on the Formula just to keep it in running order. I had sent the 72 400 carb from the 75 Esprit to Cliff a month ago. He did it up nicely and I got it back last week. I put it on the Formula as a temp so I could send the Formula's 7042273 to Cliff. So it's sort of underjetted for its current duty. :-)

Heard it sold for around 95K? wonder how nice it really was.
You never get the full skinny on these auction cars compared to here and going through the shark tank. Even ebay is more credible, well at least you get a number of pictures to review along with a description. |

Is there a bushing you can use to put a regular distributor in a SD block or do you need an SD distributor?

SD distributor and non SD are basically the same. There is a sleeve that goes on an SD distributor and takes up the space between the distributor body and the block. If you get a sleeve you can use non SD distributors. A while back Rocky told me about a place that sells the sleeve. I can't remember who it is. If Rocky doesn't chime in I'll find out and post the contact. I used to see them for sale once in a while for under $50 but it's been a while.

Went to the monthly Caffeine & Octane in Atlanta last Sunday, I saw an Auto 73 SD Trans Am. The guy bought it in 83 ($6,000 ) from a pilot on the south side of Atlanta. . It was white with saddle? interior. He had it repainted in 87 and later put a disc brake rear in it. The paint looked good for being 25 years old and the interior was very nice. Under the hood could have used some touch up and lose the headers but everything original and in good shape. The old American mags with spinners weren’t bad but the extremely crooked and wrong exhaust tips. (In Lloyd’s words “Wheel Barrow Handles”) would have to go. You never know when a SD will turn up. Sorry no pictures !
