[QUOTE/]

Right now I'm building a car to run in heads up class, NA 7#/CID, car is now 499.999 CID and 3500#, will a smaller engine at less weight be faster? [/QUOTE]

YES

I'm not so sure about racing "under" peak but avg. power down the racetrack is where it's at.

At the HIGHEST rpm possible. Acceleration RATE is key.

Gaby,

I agree with you, area under the power curve over the operating range in the application is what makes the car move.

Why does the HIGHEST rpm possible make it any faster?

I was told more compression strokes = more power.

I know my motor peaks at 6600 but It will flat line past 7500 (same hp) Its faster when I shift at 7300 then when I shift at 6800. I always thought it was because of the extra momentum/inertia from the 500 more rpm's.

winner. plus if its flat you raise the average by taking it to the higher rpm it will fall to a higher number on the shift.=raising the average.

Sounds like you guys are confusing things?

It's the SAME total HP we were talking about.

How much time does you're engine spend at a low RPM?

Mine is basically at a 1000 RPM range if not less.

Or the velocity in the port?

FWIW: Slower velocity can take more time for the engine to recover thus higher rpm shift points even thou the HP curve is flat.

More HP to the ground equates to lower ET's.

Not HP at a high RPM or even low RPM, just good old HP!

If you're ET's don't equate to you're HP, then something on your car needs work.

OK, lets talk acceleration rate.

I have a manual trans. (clutch) car traveling a long at constant velocity. I push the gas pedal to the floor and accelerate to the red line. Where was the max. acceleration rate as data logged on the G meter?

a) When I first floor the gas pedal
b) Peak Torque RPM
c) Peak HP RPM
d) Red Line RPM
e) none of the above

Did you ever have the motor dynoed to see where peak HP is and how quickly or slowly it falls off?
