Agree it needs a resto and will be a nice car done. He is a nice guy and I'm sure he could use the money more than the car.

I wonder if that green SD is the one I drove in VA back in the 90's. No hood bird car too - saddle interior automatic.

Any of you SD owners have this style bolt on your lower radiator shroud ? This same bolt is used on the evap line to core support as well. In the assembly book the 2 lower bolts should be the same as the upper shroud ones.

I'd have to look and see but I think thats the same bolt that holds on the lower Air Dam which is located behind the spoiler on the 73 SD's.

Have a question, whats the best Super Duty exhaust system made???
Had a guy at the poci ask and told him I'd check around and get back to him. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Brew

I've mentioned it before, but I'm very satisfied with the fit and finish of my Gardner system. They fit and bolt up like the originals without any snags or adjustments needed, and they're aluminizied on both the outside and the inside so more than likely it'll be the last exhaust purchase necessary. On the minus side, they don't have the crush areas the originals were supposed to have and they aren't mandrel bent.

Maybe if it's installed in a 240Z? Mine sounds pretty deep and throaty. I can't imagine a stock exhaust system sounding much different.

Gardner system on the car I had at POCI and the one parked next to mine. Both sound good. I compare Gardner's system to what the SD cars sounded like back when they were a year or two old with low miles. An SD with 20k plus miles and more than a couple years old developed a more throaty sound. Maybe Gardner's would sound different too after a while.

I agree with Steve, Gardner is the way to go. It has the correct tone and is the single transverse muffler.

The system on my SD is the 455HO style (71-72 Trans Am). It does not have the 2 resonators which are correct for the Super Duty Trans Ams.

Just to clarify, only the 73 SDs had the resonators. 74s did not have them. And for the record, the Gardner exhaust did NOT fit my T/A at all. Could not keep it off of the pinion at full rebound. I sold it for $600 after a season and bought a Pypes system.

The only section of the factory system that was mandrel bent was the over axles tubes. Gardner does not replicate that. They do install the clearance crushes in the tubes but not as bad as the factory system. If you are looking for the correct appearance only, the Gardner system is the way to go. If you are looking for stock style system (crossflow) and want performance too, look elsewhere.

Didn't POCI have 4 73 Brewster TA SD at one time? Someone asks about exhaust and can't find the answer there, that lad is lost!

Just wanted to point out in this thread that the Buccaneer Red 1973 Trans Am SD-455 tested in various magazines back then seemingly has surfaced!
