After seeing the actual blueprints I was able to get a more accurate look , to the hump and the front arch. The flapper door will be more accurate as well . It will be powder coated a satin / low gloss black . Will be fully functional except for the carb modification .Hopefully will be ready in a couple of months to get everything together .
Sweet!

Default Air cleaner base

Ah guys does anybody know if there is a differance in air cleaner depth , between a standard lemans air cleaner base pan and a trans am air cleaner base ? I know there is a different air filtre for each. Reason being I modified my air cleaner base to accept a k/n filtre with k/n top. It was to tall for the ram air door to open so I had to drop the pan down . Cut around the carb bowl . Now the ram air parts list shows shows the air cleaner base is for a trans am. This will cause a issue with installation of the new ram air system for those who do not have a trans am air cleaner to lower the air cleaner so the ram air dome and upper pan will have enough clearance . Other wise you will have to cut your standard lemans air cleaner to lower it .

Trans Am air cleaner base is approx. 1-1/4" more dropped than a Lemans type air cleaner base.

Thanks for the info. Hard to find , guess will have to modify standard assembly.

Thanks. Don't know if I'll catch up to you Alvin.
BTW, Thanks to Mike Noun for the photo. It is the system on Tom Goad's wagon. Note his has the 74 GTO solenoid, while the assembly manual shows the 71-72 T/A dual solenoids.

Not meaning to go off on another trail, but has there ever been any data on the performance that this system is capable of producing? I'd like to see some torque/rpm/hp readings on a a-body study.

I've wondered same for Pontiac's NACA/NASA, Formula and Shaker Scoop systems. It is often written that placement in the airstream and pressure areas are key to performance. Regardless of the #'s, the above systems all are iconic Pontiac Performance image items, that regardless of the actual "gains" represent the "cool factor" IMO.

How much of a temperature change do you think the air would be coming in from a ram air system?

Not back in the day. I talked to John Sawruk about it and he said the 73-77 A-bodies essentially all had ram air from the factory anyway, and this system didn't add much.

As we all know, there were no special carb numbers for ram air cars, so any improvement wasn't enough to affect carb calibration. The thermostatic air cleaner keeps air entering the carb at around 150°F, but the NASA scoop Ram Air system would have bypassed this and you would get a blend of heated air and outside air. Would you get a small gain with cooler air entering the carb? Maybe, but only if you tweaked the carb a bit. Back-to-back dragstrip testing would be required.

I think you would have to get some benefit from the cool air from the outside of the hood as the placement of the duct would draw in the cool dead air that would be on top of the hood. The center placement of the duct would allow cooler air from the top side of the hood to be drawn in & with the foam seal it should , should be able to get what ever outside air temp is there at the time into the the top of the carb, & it would have to be cooler then the under hood temps. So with that the cool air would be more dense so you would get a cool charge this giving you some benefit.
