Interesting... with nearly identical setups, my ET definitely improves running the shift points up to 6-6200.

When I was restricted to a 14x3 air cleaner due to hood clearance (was a closed air cleaner with 2-4" intake holes), I found a defenite ET improvement when running a K&N filter top. However, i am now running a 14x4 air cleaner with a sealed air pan and cowl hood, and no ET difference with or w/o the filter top.

Will be Interesting to see results of your new carb! I have a QF 850 and a QF 1000, and in back to back testing, the 850 is a touch faster for 60ft times, and identical mph on the top end.

On a related note, I will eventually start a new thread looking for suggestions to get my car a little closer to the 10.0 mark

Our air filter setup is almost identical. Thanks for the info on shift points that is what I figured according to what I've heard for dyno numbers.
Keep hanging around Darby and you will hit 10.0's.

I had a K&N in my 78's Shaker base. With my old 455 roller motor we pulled it off one night at the track, we had jetted for the air cleaner-lean popped out the Shaker scoop at me in the dark!

By the Hp calculators for your weight you need 656 Hp to go 10.0 and you are making 558 right now with your current times, so you need more power. Time to go to the RP.

He is going to get pretty close Dave Bisschop has seen 600 to 620hp out of the head/cam package.

It would be nice but with new management at our usual local track their schedule will make things tough to organize a "track day" . They are only doing a test n tune normally on Friday nites now.
I'm most likely going to Toronto Motorsports Park..as they run test tune Fri nite sat aft Sat nite and Sun aft unless something big is going on.

Well the weather and my work schedule didn't cooperate. Now its next weekend. I did swap the Pro-Systems carb on to set idle and mixture screws. It seems pretty responsive..well at least in the garage..never got out with it with the rain. Huge difference in shooter volume...twin 50cc pumps with 45 squirters vs 50cc and 30cc with 37's..it seems to work..track will tell. I swapped the 950 HP back on so I can do baseline passes with it next weekend.

Put about 100 miles on the car yesterday with the Pro Systems carb on. It didn't really take much to dial it in for the street..set the idle..floats were almost dead on..set the mixture screws, left the base jetting alone and drove it. I had to lower the idle down once the engine was fully heat soaked..but it runs good. Pulled the plugs when I got back home they were clean. That did surprise me that the street tune of the carb seems pretty good for my liking. I did do a 6 or 7 second rolling full throttle blast up to 100 mph for a shakedown on the street..seems pretty good pulls hard. Later today I'm going to a secluded back road I know to do a couple full throttle from a slow roll blasts and run out a quarter mile to get a really good feel for it.
Looks like the weather for tomorrow isn't going to cooperate so its next weekend for the track. New plan is just to run this carb first at the track and if the track stays good swap the 950hp on after a few runs unless its a no-brainer that the new carb is quicker.

I’m dying to see how you make out with Pro Systems’s carb. Patrick by the way is a Pontiac guy.

Well no spectacular news. Made it to the track Friday night ,the place was a zoo. First pass took off relatively easy ran a 11.16 @ 125.02 with a crappy 1.7411 60ft..I was happy to see the mph back up were it should be with the Continental convertor back in and no apparent issues with the transmission. I was disappointed with the 60 ft but I think that was in part to my relatively soft leave..and maybe to much initial fuel with the new carb. Next pass was a huge waste of time..an hour in the lanes and stuck in the non prepped lane with a crappy water box...blew the tires off and ran a 11.50. Overall content with the carb..I have a LM2 ordered to finally fine tune carbs and data log runs. Heading back to a different track next week to sort things out..I'm still convinced this car will run 10.6 or quicker with this new carb once dialed in.
Best part of the night..I knew Andy was coming..but he didn't say he was bringing his car. So when he came he payed at the gate, immediately turned left into the staging lanes had his car tech'd. Lowered the air in his tires and ripped of his best 60 ft time ever ..think it was a 1.46..in street tune with the restrictive air filter and his quadrajet! Got his slip...then we saw him what a great surprise..after that it was a zoo just to get into the staging lanes..and the night was a write off for any real testing.

I know the first run it was something like a 11.16/117 with a 1.46 60ft...that was straight off the street with his restrictive air filter on..I think his next run was in the low 11's spinning..but mph up 123?

Yes with a quadrajet, rpm intake ..right off the street into the lanes ..all he did was drop the air...new set of M/T's as well...3200 conti and 342 gears viking coilovers front caltracs rear..outweighs my car by 200lbs.. This was with his restrictive air filter so the et and mph were down drastically.
Good goal for my car to achieve..

Seems to me the ET and mph should be much better for a 1.46 60- ft.

But admittedly I know nothing about his car or the combination involved. Low 11's at 123 mph could be a 1.61-1.62 60-ft. here with the previous 462. With nitrous the old 450 was 9.62 at 140 mph with a 1.468 60-ft. on one time slip.

I'll bow out. This is about your car, and keep up the good work.

I believe his car normally runs 10.8 range 124 mph.this was with a restrictive air filter on it right off the street..I saw the slip...
I know its an oddball slip..even by the 1/8 it was slowing down

1.40 60ft. was my best. That meant a 10.54 @ 127mph
