Found some light damage on the passenger side of the front bumper at the directional light area. I'm pretty confident that this was a factor in the distorted shape to the rubber nose. A little tin work on the bumper seems to have straightened it out. Hopefully this will help pull back some of the original shape to the nose piece. The inner section to the front bumper is fairly heavy. I'm going to lighten it up a little.

I'm making a little progress. I got the front bumper parts sand blasted and primed. I have a little straightening left to do on the bumper. Then I can get these parts finished up and put on the car.

Here's the front bumper's inner brace. Lightened up before I primed it.

Got some nice weather this week, 70's and low humidity. I was able to take advantage of it and got the Aero Coupe's nose pieces painted.

Now that I got the nose painted. I need to address the 2+2 grills. The top two grills have been painted a light blue and the bottom two are an orange red. They were originally black. I want to remove those colors without damaging the grills. They are unique to the 2+2 and I imagine hard to come by. I was thinking I could use my bead cabinet to remove the paint. I don't want to try a paint remover for fear that it may react to the grill plastic. Here's a picture of the grills.

I ended up going with the bead blast cabinet to strip the paint off the grills. Worked out pretty good. The upper two are now ready for some paint. The lower grills need some repair. A few of the mounting tabs were broken off.

Thanks, just got back from a road trip. I'll be working on all the small parts associated with assembling the nose this week. I'm looking forward to seeing her all together too !

I've seen what brake fluid does to a paint job. I'll have to try that. Thanks for the info Rod.

At the risk of insulting some members on here, by looking at that paint job where did you buy that car from, Georgia woods or the mountains of NW Carolina?

lol Stan, it took me a minute to understand what you were saying. I had posted the old paint job. Actually I bought it in Conn. from a Linda Acevedo. Don't know if the car always lived in the salt belt though.

I've got the headlight buckets finished. Threw them in the bead blast cabinet, primed and painted them. Being that the Pontiac Aero Coupe's nose is similar to the Monte Carlo SS. I wonder if the headlight bucket assembly are the same ??

I installed the upper grilles prior to installing the nose on the car. The nose piece fit isn't too bad. I was able to get some of the distortion out. Just not near enough to make it acceptable. I'm beginning to run out of parts to put on the car. Here's a few photos, a couple didn't come out so good.

Earlier in this thread I had welded a 65-67 hood scoop onto a stock Grand Prix hood. I had planned on using this hood on the Aero Coupe. That hood currently resides on my "driver" Grand Prix. I just measured the carb height as compared to the top of the fender and came up with 2 3/4 to 3 inches. I then measured the peak of the hood scoop on the driver. It measured about 3 inches as compared to the fender. That makes this set up no good for the aero coupe. I've attached a picture of the hood on the G.P. I'll have to look at some glass hoods to see what catches my eye.

looks like it's really coming together for ya Mike, although I usually don't care that much for cowl induction style hoods (read chevy) might flow pretty nice with the lines on that car and the slope back rear window, JMHO.

Or, possibly one of the bigger/taller T/A shaker scoops?
