Hello Everyone,
Worked on the 73TA some this week end, Got the sub frame media blasted, and got it painted, also got the big metal pieces that go in the nose on a 73 media blasted and painted, took some pictures for all to see, I noticed the number stamped on the end of the sub frame, Looks like 1 29732. I'm guess this is a date code? Still have to do the lower control arms, and springs.

Also got my lower control arms blasted and painted, but I ran into a problem, when I tried to press in the new Moog k6145T they didn't want to go into my lower control arms, the keep going in crooked, So I got my calipers out and measured the diameter and found he Moogs are slightly larger 2.095 verse 2.075 on the originals, they also have vertical groves in them, here is a picture of the difference, is there a trick to getting these things to stay straight while pressing them in, or do I have the wrong product, or will they straighten out the farther I press them in, I don't want to ruin my lower control arms, any advice would be much appreciated. Also I'm using an OEM press kit to do the pressing, It work great for taking them out. Thanks in advance for any information to help me out of this frustration.

Well, I found this over at Nasty Z-28.
"Those ridges also make it a tremendous PITA to install if your LBJ hole is NOT worn out. Also, once you've put that style in, you're going to have to use the same for any future replacements. The Moog "problem solver" LBJ that I put in an '86 Camaro had these and it tore the heck out of that hole it presses into getting it in." So I think I'm going to try to find a different brand, so much for using Moog? Whats the next best brand? Or do they still sell Moog K6145 which are not oversized, and do not have the ridges.

Well after going to four part stores and measuring the outside diameter of all the lower ball joints I could find and realizing that what I got is the best design out there and noticing that most others are also over sized, I decided to use the Moog 6145T lower ball joints that I had purchased from Rock Auto, But I'll tell you one thing, it was by far, one of the most difficult things I've ever done so far. I had to use a really big breaker bar so I could put enough weight behind the press to get these pressed into place. Thanks for the moral support from the wife, she helped stabilize the lower control arms while i did the pressing, Also got the bushings pressed in and mounted the lower engine mount pieces and the lower control arms onto the sub frame, I guess next is to put the springs in. Enjoy the pictures.

i'll have to check mine, but that may be an early 74 support. june 13 73 would be a late 73 if not an early 74.
