It is actually PPG Lacquer. If you want the PPG code, let me know. I do have a can of leftover paint.

If I had that car I'd probably want to drive it every day- just like we did back in the '70s and 80s when they were good, solid, second-owner, used cars and gas was 70 cents a gallon.
Thanks bud.

Maybe backwards? Nobody has ever mentioned it.

Won't matter much in the near future anyway. They won't fit over the new valvetrain.

They might is you use 5/16ths gaskets. I've been told that will work, unless you use a radical valvetrain setup. I'm planning on doing that with my 400... putting the 389 valve covers on it.

I noticed the valve cover backwards but I see it so often that I didn't mention it....and, I figured Tod knew. Hey, it still works ..the valves are covered...lol

It'll be a non-stock valvetrain. I don't want the stock valvecovers either. The only reason they are on the motor is because it is stock. I'm going to run a set of CalCustom vavlvecovers for a 'period' correct look.

That would be inside out.

In the picture you posted the lower edge of the valve cover shows the reliefs for the intake manifold. And while not visible in your picture the reversed lip that keeps the gasket in place is supposed to be the lower edge.

Most people say backwards referring to the humps but since they serve no known function they're irrelevent. Besides I'm a contrary old fart.

I always thought that edge was to 'hang' the covers on the head They work great that way.

Latest update:

I got my front lower control arms last night from the painter. They look great, but it turns out that the incorrect bushings were in the kit and I cannot install them. This is a bummer, but not going to hold me back.

Arms before - they were in pretty rough shape:

same Arms after alot of work:

I went ahead and installed the old lower arms, new springs, and spindle/rotor assy. I then tried to bleed the power steering system, without any luck. Then I found an exploded view of the pump and realized I got the pressure valve assembled incorrectly. I was able to pull the valve with the pump still on the car, and then reinstall the valve correctly. I now have power steering, but very little assist when sitting still. I will need to look into this issue. May have a bad valve or something. It may not work properly in the original GTO pump (the pressure valve was from the Jeep that the steering box came from).

Once I got the car back on the ground, I couldn't get the jack out from under the front. Last night I wasn't all that thrilled that it sat so low. Tonight I backed it outside and realized it doesn't look as bad as I thought. It has a pretty decent rake, and looks kind of meaner than it did before. Once I get it aligned and drive it, I can determine if I want it higher in the front or not. It is tough to tell in this photo, but it has some pretty serious positive camber right now and alot of toe in. I will do the alignment Thursday morning. It was too dark to take pics when I got home tonight. These are from last night while in the garage.

Unfortunately, no I did not. It is supposed to be 1" lower in the front and 1/2" lower in the rear. I'd say I really got 2" in the front and 1" or more in the rear.

Going to make it to PY this weekend?

I met your folks last summer at the show I put together in Erie, only seems right I should meet you this weekend.

I will definitely be there. I am trailering the car, due to some unfinished issues. With all the rain, I'll feel better with it in it's portable garage at night. I will drive it as much as I can out there if the weather permits. This car has not been in a trailer since I got it on the road (other than a short trip it took this winter from a friend's house to mine). It was built to drive.

Look forward to meeting you. We are staying at the Inn At Towamencin. Where are you staying at?

March 15th...Been nice for a few days here in Pittsburgh and my GTO has been sitting quietly under a cover since probably October. I've done nothing to it this past winter and was happy with that. I decided to take it out for a ride today, so I reconnected the battery, checked fluids, fired it up and went for it. I picked up a buddy of mine and we put about 40 miles on it and stopped and took a few pics with my iPhone 4S. Then we ran out of gas and had a few laughs (this is the 2nd or 3rd time I have done this since this car has been on the road - for some reason the low fuel light doesn't work like on my 2010 Equinox company car). Was only down about 15 minutes. All good now.

Ran out of gas here...

Oddly enough, I work in the postal business - just not for the USPS.

It's an old glass factory about 10 mins from my home. I'm gonna go back with a real camera (instead of my cell phone) and get some better pics.

I just went through this entire thread, again, from start to present. Man, oh man you've come a long way. I love the stance and I'm looking to get the same from my '67. Heck, I'm wanting poverty caps, now! How's the handling with your current set up? Also, what did you find with your power steering issue where you were getting very little assist?
