Bruce, actually I know the story may be short on specifics. As far as driving skill, my friend was good. Track champ one year. We had a friendly rivalry but he was better on the lights usually. If I could catch him early I usually got the win light. I think the biggest difference between the 2 cars was that he used a tranny brake and I did not. I think a TB may be a little harder on parts than foot braking. Just a little FYI on the other hand, the current track champion at our track is 75 years old and races a 69 Camaro with a 530 BBC--he is fast and the same motor for 3 years. Lots of aftermarket parts though.

I'm not doubting your word Ed, its just if you want to compare to fairly identical motors, we'll need specifics.

Pdude must have done this, as have others here.

Then again, Pdude has already stated his answer of George's question. George is just a little slow on the uptake.

I know Bill hasn't broke the block in his KRE ENGINE with 1,800+hp. So a Pontiac IA block can go at least 1,800 hp without breaking. So block flex isn't going to break them.

Headed for the seven's!

An IA (and probably the IA 2) block is just as strong if not stronger than the Chevy Merlin blocks. So with all the SAME aftermarket parts available for both engines they would be Equally as strong. The only difference would be the person assembling them. Now that's common sense! Damn, I answered my own question.

Headed for the seven's!

George, the fact remaines that you can build a Chevy for less money. What would it cost to build a IA motor with one domminator on gas with 940 HP? I no it can be done but what is the cost. Ask Scott Rex. I am sure he is making that kind of power but he isn't doing it with a cast allunimum manifold and one gas carb. We just did a 565 chevy with out of the box dart heads and Dart manifold that made 937 HP for $12.500. Try to do that with a IA motor. and Ken next time I see you will you model the red teddy!

Jim,
I never, ever said it would cost the same. You could do in a Pontiac with a blower for that price and probably make more HP and with out a doubt make a lot more torque! With more torque you could shift & run it at a lower rpm thus saving valve tran parts.

You can't compare them. you just said it. Put a blower on the 565 and it will be superior again. The fact is you can't do it. They don't compare!

Yea, Your right Goatman the cost of the blower would put it over 12,500 but the blower would be a long term investment.

Jim,
Don't know if the Chevy would be superior or not but I was just giving you a combo that would make that kind of HP and be reliable! I know what kind of money I have in my engine and the HP it makes.

George, if there were no differences, other than a few bucks, then more people would be building Pontiacs.

The Chevy makes more power and is cheaper to boot. In every class from the factory appearing muscle cars, all the way through....
