Have either one of you dealt with a drag radial car that is making 1300+ HP? Judging by your responses, I would say no. A drag radial is a very finicky beast. There are times were you can't just pull up dead smack in the groove. That's the purpose of a starting line person.

Could you elaborate more on this?
At our track, it was to get in the 'groove'?
(and most had no idea where it was at)

I had so many complaints about the track not hooking at our track.
I'd show them where to stage and by golly they hooked and ran their best ET.

Where I race drag radial tires are useless you can't move 10 feet .. If the track prep is not there .. No starting line person needed with a slick..

A radial car doesn't like to be in the worn-in dark grey center of the groove. We prefer to be just to the outside of it in the shiny stuff.

Even if we had track prep here I race alone most of time ..I bought a new set of 315 Pro MT have never tired them I see to many guys skating around on them ..

Right now I use Quick Times ...work well 1.24 60ft 175 shot ..

Not me. Give me a steamroller tire every time. My "crew" is me and my wife. That's the way I like it.

Tire's (like everything else) are a personal preference. Run what ever works for your program.

Mine's the same. Ran my 63 for 8 years at nostalgia races and she never went to the track once. In a way, not a bad thing either lol.

I now spend more time working/messing with her car than I do mine anymore... Never should have let her make a pass in my car years ago...

Actually my post was about "staging the car in the beams"......not lining back tires of the car in the grove. Yes I could see it to be VERY important to a 1,300 HP car with go kart sized tires to get in the grove because I know I need to be in the grove to hook every time. Now remember us Bracket cars/ top sportsmen car (some which run LOW 6 seconds) need to run on our dial ins every run so being in the same spot is also VERY important.

John typically a radial tire car can not travel over a bald spot without spinning. There are times that you have to make adjustments to get around the spot. A "bad spot" could be on the hit, where the front tires rest when the car is in the beams (mainly when you are racing with imports), and further out (usually somewhere before the 60' beam). There have been occasions where I would line the car up so that it rolls back into the groove to get around a bad spot. I've "split the bald spot" and put half of the tire on the bald spot and the other half where there is rubber. Sometimes it works...sometimes it does not. lol

This is why people check the track so you can make the adjustment(s) either on the starting line, in the laptop, or both. There are times I'll walk back to the car and tell whomever to put a softer graph in the box to get down the track and then there are times I tell them to throw the house at it. lol It obviously varies from pass to pass. Hope this helps.
