Just curious, how do you know Schneider is the company making the new Comp 857 lifters? Or am I misunderstanding your post? That's a big savings if you buy them directly from Schneider than Comp.

It's Shaver Specialties. Here's a part of an article copied from engine labs website.

At one time the company manufactured lifters for Isky, but now the emphasis is on hydraulic roller lifters for COMP Cams and Edelbrock.

So it seems they are doing Edelbrocks lifters as well as Comps.

Shaver manufacturers the gears used on the Shaver/Wesmar gear drive units. Shown is a No. 7 Fellows gear shaper. In the center is a computer-controlled Sunnen vertical hone that is accurate to plus-or-minus 25 millionths of an inch when setting the clearance for the hydraulic roller lifter case. The first step in building the lifter is notching the end with a Sundstrand mill.

Default follow up

I posted a video earlier in this 10 page thread with my engine at idle. I went through each lifter and checked lash- adjusting them closer to 3/4 as opposed to 1/2 turn. In the process, I found a rocker tip going bad- Thanks to Bill Meyer for helping me with a replacement (it will get a new set later). Warmed the engine up and definitely is quieter. Again, hard to tell with the "hollow" & echoing sound of my phone video- but I certainly have no issues with the new comp Hyd rollers...

The lifters looked like theyd do more oiling at the base circle. Fired it up tonight and the lifters were totally silent within five minutes at idle. That certainly didnt happen during the engine breakin last November. More like 30+ minutes and never as quiet as the new set.

I drove the car today to work. Valve-train noise is non-existent. Pleased so far and hats off to Wally at Comp Cams for agreeing to replace them free of charge. No warranty though but its been almost 4 years since i built the motor.

My impression was that the 857S is a discontinued part number. I have heard that the new version of the 857 may be the same actual part as the old 857S, and that the old 857 (non-s version) is no longer available.

Tom has used several sets of the the new Comp HR lifters without issues so that's good enough for me.

I have a note out to Comp, but
have not heard back. Does anyone know what weight of oil THEY recommend for the 857 lifters?
