Seriously, I would NOT for any reason use a 557 block. Spend the time/funds for an early block or even a later 4 speed XX block. I had this conversation about 15 years ago with a board member here asking me about heads, cams, compression ratios and wanting a carb for his 557 "stroker" build. It lasted about 6 months, then split at the mains and the entire project was FUBAR. Just don't do it........

I acquired one of those Butler-built strokers on the used market about 10 years ago and could not believe that they used a 557 block! It came with a mountain of paperwork. I sold it off immediately to fund another car and motor build.
