factory AC owners, what ignition are you using?
Anyone thats fiddled with the distributor, fighting that compressor bracket,
will realize its a cruel joke. Its actually quicker to move the bracket for distributor access. Whos running something other than points,ie Pertronix, Mallory ,TI,etc?

Most are running Pertronix or points.

I am still running points, but with a vintage Mark 10 Capacitive discharge ignition system. It seems to extend the life of the points quite a bit.
Here is one on Ebay, Just so you can see what it is. I carry a NOS spare just in case. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145451958399

Got an old Mallory hidden under the wiper cowl. Long discontinued, I bet I bought it in the mid 80's?

I ran the Mallory in my 68 Firebird 400 for years
It did refuse to start one afternoon at work. Got a ride home and brought back a spare control module and it was running again. I ll look for it for spares for you, took it off when I sold car.

Another thread about failure of the pertronix units have me nervous.
wondering if its possible to use the CD/TI ignition systems internal parts and a more modern control unit.Anyone know how to accomplish this? whos got a converted GM HEI unit to test fit and see if it will fit under the OHC6 AC compressor mount? forgot to mention I have factory tach/gauges

This may be way off base, but my '52 GMC 228 cubic inch six cylinder is running Chrysler six cylinder mag pickup and reluctor (circa 1977) inside the stock distributor. The ID of the reluctor has been machined to slip over the cam that operates the points (which have been removed along with the condenser).
Two signal wires ( + and - ) leave the distributor body and find their way to a GM HEI module I have hidden inside the original voltage regulator box on the firewall. The other two pins on the HEI module trigger a Blaster 2 coil, which has similar specs to a GM HEI coil. The guy I got the parts from may be open to trying the same (totally reversible) mod on an OHC6 distributor. Here is his write-up on doing the mod to an old Chevy/GMC distributor. http://devestechnet.com/Home/HEIgnition

Bill thanks for that
This is about the same as what I was asking. I have spare guts to a CD/TI distributor as well as a pretty complete 66 TI system. Will this work for a trigger on someone elses control module like youre using or an MSD? I miss being able to ask Padgett ::^(
