Like some others who have posted, I'm not a big fan of the '73+ trim rings on Rally IIs. But you can't go wrong with ring-less Rally IIs.
It would be nice if someone would make a correct appearing 15" Honeycomb out of actual aluminum. I think it would sell well. The 17" versions are OK, but they definitely don't look like the originals even at a glance - too big, and the proportions aren't quite right. Another great 2nd gen Bird wheel is the WS6 15 x 8 snowflake from the later cars. For a change of scenery, I swapped the JWs on my T/A for a vintage set of 15 x 8 Motor Wheel Spyders that I've had in the basement for a long time. They have a cast aluminum center section welded to a chrome steel hoop, and were made from around '69-'74 I think. The wheels have about the same level of "patina" as the rest of the car

HRF said something that I can really relate to. He mentioned a customer upgrading to wheels from another car on the lot. When I was there part time, then full time 77-81 I saw customers AND Salesmen try for this nearly every week. " I want this Firebird, but with those wheels and tires, cant we just swap them? "Since I signed most all bill of ladings on new deliveries ( Very similar to the PHS) accountability was usually placed or blamed on me. If you didnt watch them, salesmen would drive 2 cars in and swap wheels after work, or weekend. Anyway, this went on with everything in and on the cars. Constant war lol. Lots wanted the WS6 wheels on Anything from a Ventura 2, to a base bird. Some folks were offered cash trade in fir their wheels if they ordered a new set.

For some reason the bandit rally ii's previously mentioned look wicked on a GTO/Lemans for some reason...really updates the look
You can't really go wrong with rally ii's or honeys either

I'd stick with the Rally II's. Although, those Honeycombs do look pretty good.

I've pretty much decided to stick with the Rally II's.
Just trying to figure out if reproduction F70-14 tires are worth the price tag and then decide on Goodyear or Firestone as there are no Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Also looking for a good trim ring to replace a road rash one.

I have a stock early build 71 with honeys on it. I finally got a set of the infamous 15's with the 14 center rims. Paid dearly for them but... I put the wide oval repops on them and it looks good but the car did not come with them, plus I love rally two's. So I'm going through this now and I vote for the rally two's!!

Pulled the trigger on B.F.Goodrich Radial T/A's. Probably going to regret it, but the exhaust is calling my wallet.

It'll look better than plain black walls .
The repop tires are beyond the reach for most of us. I thought Hoosier was still making a RWL street radial , but I guess not anymore. No hits on searches. |
