Read these plugs
How do you guys think these plugs look ? I have about 1700 miles on them on a fresh 406 with 10.00.1 . I ran 5 gal of leaded 110 once - made no noticeable difference . I poured in a can of octanium from VP a few hundred miles ago just because I had it - no difference . Smells just a tad rich at idle but runs fantastic . No hint of detonation and gets excellent mpg . 1st pic is # 1 , 2nd is #8

Reading the plugs on a street given car doesn't tell you much. Is it telling you idle, cruise or full throttle? As you said it may be rich at idle or low speed

They look fine for the average way the motor is used that put those miles on the plugs, extended full throttle maybe a different story and can only be determined with a fresh set of plugs and 3 or 4 full throttle runs up through the gears with no idle time after each run.

Thanks , those are Delco 7 plugs that are like a r44 I think . I pulled a couple just looking for any signs of detonation because I’m paranoid . I run 160 thermostat , it doesn’t get very hot even at 70 with the ac on and is getting 14-16 mpg with 3.90s & Muncie . I cleaned up the idle , running the screws in just about 1/4 turn and driving the last few month weather permitting . I think I’ll jest leave it alone now .

2. Given the leaded fuel, and the additives, I don't think anyone can say for sure what's going on in that chamber based on the color of the porcelains. I haven't seen brown plugs since the lead was taken out of gasoline. 3. For 1700 miles, either the photo wasn't focused sharply enough, or you've got a lot of rounding of the center electrodes. |

I was wondering if the octane booster was responsible for the color . I think I’ll start over with fresh plugs and high ball the additives & race gas . I have a set of R43s & R45s delcos . Is there a preference - it’s an iron head 406 .
