edelbrock head questions
Are the 87cc round port heads able to be hydraulic or solid cam set up? i ask because advertised they say one way or another. Is this for ease of installation on the buyers end? Thanks as always. I may have found a set local but they are hydraulic solid per the owner as of now. fwiw he thinks they are from 2007.

I am running the hydraulic roller with 236 242 @50 on a 114 lobe seperation if it matters

Congrats on the pickup! Since they’re pretty old heads, you may as well plunk down the hundred or so dollars on a set of springs that would be appropriate for your cam. Springs do wear out and loose tension. Proper spring setup is one of the most important keys to long life for your lifters, valves and seats.

Agree with the comment above regarding valve springs.
Check new valve springs at their verified installed height with their intended retainer in place using a Rimac machine BEFORE they are installed. NEVER trust the catalog specs ! Should you choose to go with a solid roller set up keep this in mind.... Inadequate oiling, excessive spring pressures and the hammering effect associated with VALVE LASH play a significant part in the failure of the roller, needle bearings and axle. BUT very important, the lack of adequate valve spring pressure to control the valves is a potential KILLER. .

Further, if interested in running a street solid roller set up. Search for related posts by HWYSTR455, through the years he has run solid rollers on the street numerous times for the life of an engine.
He has commented once a SR setup breaks in and is properly adjusted, you pretty much don't have to touch it for 1000s of miles. >>>>>> It's a myth that the lash has to be constantly adjusted ! The recommendation from many is to also keep an eye on valve spring pressure. Beyond the initial loss of pressure after run-in, once a spring loses pressure over time it can further deteriorate and lead to issues. Solid rollers are a maintenance item. That said, currently my application is limited street use, no racing, so personally we check my valve spring pressure once a year and at the same time we check the valve lash. .

definitely getting new springs to match the cam. also will be checking pushrod lengths etc..

My initial engine “the one that blew” had 2 iterations. I originally had butler spec me a mechanical cam and set the heads up accordingly but Paul Carter and his love of voodoo lobes convinced me to go another way. Now even further those heads have been setup for HFT. I have two boxes of spare springs in the garage. I have no idea the specs as they were setup by butler and my builder Wayne.
