Adjusting top brake shoe pivot pin on 8 lug drum.
My 64 Grand Prix has 8 lug drums which have been recently relined. I’m trying to adjust the top brake shoe pivot. The shop manual says to change out the drum with a stock drum and use a feeler gauge to adjust via the slot in the drum and then replace the 8 lug drum.
Is there a way to make this adjustment without the slotted drum.? OPGI sells a standard drum but they clearly state that neither the slot nor a knockout are present and to make the adjustment with the drum off. 🧐 Any suggestions? |

Possibly a shoe/drum gauge like this may work? Not sure. I have owned half a dozen 8-lug cars and never needed to make this adjustment.

Interesting. I’ve never seen such a gauge, but that certainly could work. I checked and Amazon has them. Thanks. Appreciate the help.
