55 Chieftain 2-dr Wagon
A little info on the current project:
1955 Chieftain 2-dr Wagon - .30 over 428 (Thanks to Brewster for selling me the 428) - Muncie M20 4-speed - C4 front and rear suspension grafted onto wagon frame - Paint will be left as-is for now, but may change after up and running Last night, test fit the body back on the frame to check for fit and/or interferences. A couple areas of concern but nothing major. While body is on the frame, will measure and mark additional areas of firewall that need to be trimmed for clearance and for symmetry. Setback for the firewall will need to be in the neighborhood of 4. Also installed, with some modifications, the 57 Chevy brake/clutch pedal assembly and test fit the new tilt steering column to figure out the connection between it and the C4 intermediate shaft, which turned out to be fairly simple. A few additional build pics in the PY album: 55 Chieftain (https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...p?albumid=2024) Tony

I knew those Accel Super coils were good for something.
Nice work.

What intake is that? The support from the heat cross over doesn't look familiar to me.

It is an incredible 66 degrees and sunny here today in Dayton, OH Started and warmed-up the 62 Catalina today in the garage. Let it run about 1/2 hour. Miss the sound of the solid lifter Pontiac engine during the dreary months. Wanted to go out for a drive but still 1/4" of salt on all the roads here from the couple inches of snow we had just 2 days ago!

Picked up this 389 a while back for my Suburban. Took the top end off to swap heads and check things out inside. Everything looked as expected except the water pump. With that stamped impeller and what looked to be .250 plus of impeller clearance the pump probably didn't move much water. Time to start digging through the stash and see if I can find an late 11 bolt impeller and get it to fit this early pump.

Test fit lower control arm, took a little massaging to get back in with new bushings as expected. Had to spend the majority of the day in the yard spring cleaning, mainly those 80 trillion Sweet Gum monkey ball thingies- nastiest trees on the planet!

The intake is a 1962-1963 421 SD NASCAR intake.I had Dave at SD rework the ports to match late heads, used a water Xover from a alu intake.Pretty much a RAIV-455HO intake for a AFB carb.Tom

Started the car today for the first time in a couple months. I was happy it fired right up after gas finally made it to the carb.
Battery had run down before so I checked the voltage and heard "no Mike, the alternator is not working" inside my head. One of those good, bad, good, bad things. Hopefully it will be easy to figure out and correct. |

I knew there had to be something cool about that seemingly ordinary combo!

How'd he do with the Muncie? My son is still trying to figure out the 6 speed on the T/A. At the rate he's currently learning, I may need to start shopping for a clutch.

He did OK. Grew up riding dirt bikes, so familiar withthe idea behind feathering the clutch, but throw in an old original worn out shifter and it can be challenging. He was a little nervous about down shifting into reverse, but assured him that ain’t gonna happen unless he really tried.
