Fiddling with choke
Have a nuisance issue on the center carb. Car is a 65 Catalina 2+2 421 Tripower with a Turbo 400 transmission. Choke works fine as far as getting the car started. Cold starts pretty quickly and goes to a fast idle. I can blip the throttle and drop the idle down some, but still too fast to put it in gear without a big lunge. So I wait maybe 60 seconds and give the throttle another blip which brings the idle speed down to a reasonable level(probably around 650) When I put the car in reverse or drive at this point, the engine stalls. If I wait several minutes until the engine is around 180 degrees I don’t get the stall. Not sure why this rpm drop when engaging drive before engine is fully warmed is causing it to stall. Shouldn’t the choke keep the idle speed up enough to prevent this?
