heater vacuum valve on 1964 a/c/ car
good morning:
this is for my 1964 389 grand prix with air. my valve is leaking. it opens but does not close 100%. see below pict. i am guessing i need one that is normally closed until vacuum is applied. then it opens when there is a demand for heat. anybody have a good replacement part number or manufacturer. or one to sell? thank you. mario64 |

I found the heater control valve for my 64 GP a/c at Parts Geek it is a Four Seasons part no. 74606. Mine performs perfectly.

Thanks for that. Now all I need to do is remove this stuck one! Any hints from anybody?

Yes. Once you have a new one in hand and your sure it's correct. Cut the old one off just above the nut. Then use a 6 point impact socket and a long 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar to remove. Should come right out.

Glad it worked out. Was not aware of the valves having a restriction, but it makes sense. To keep a surge of water from damaging it when the thermostat opens. They do that to protect the heater core as well.
