victor dominator intake on a 400
what do you guys think...im dropping a couple 400 blocks off at the machine shop next week, one for a 434 blower build....the other is just for the helluvit but iam taking the eagle h beam rods and ross pistons and stock crank to be balanced too.
for this extra 400, i have sm 78cc heads flowing an advertised 310cfm or the edelbrock dports 72cc out of the box. xr288 cam. intake could be victor dominator torker 2 possibly 66 tripower if this motor makes its way to my 66 although i really want that on a 455 ive got hanging around what kinda power u think is possible...and how do you guys think the victor would do on smaller cubes like this? and other than the specific lifters i have the stuff to try out the ls lifter retro fit

Torker 2 would work good. Victor 4500 is too big for a 400 in my opinion.

Well, I know a fella who ran 11 flat with one on a 400 with a RAIV cam. 750 carb.
Heavy 2nd gen too. Late block and after 3 or so years it severely cracked every main web. |

With a 400 cube motor if you had some real good breathing heads 320 plus CFM some decent compression and a big solid roller cam then a Victor may be a good choice. For your combo I think it would slow velocity may have a weak carb signal and be down on HP. Oh it would work but just not as good as other manifold choices.

In the Feb 2012 Car Craft we dyno tested a 535 ci pontiac with SD/Edelbrock heads of 340 cfm. Cam was a 248/256 hyd. roller. The Victor was down on power all the way to 5600 as compared to the Torker 2. The Victor tied with the T2 at 5800 and the power curve was flat at that rpm. The peak power was 635. The Performer RPM was strongest to 4500 RPM

Here is the article Ken mentions if interested.
https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/cc...-alloy-indian/ Note in the picture gallery the Torker II intake with the welded ports. The manifold ports were too short for the tall CNC ports on the cylinder heads and required TIG-welding raised port tops, which needed to be machined flat and port-matched. .

You should be able to make a easy 450 Hp out of any aluminum head even if it’s flowing only 260 cfm.
Go find this article from the Apr 1992 issue of HPP magazine. Note this level of power was made with a untouched T2.

Do they show any dyno sheets? These avg BSFC numbers look better than most engines best BSFC. Stan

Stan here’s they dyno sheet from that motor that Pete sent me back then.
I will post it up in 3 photos so you can zoom in better. In looking at the power anomalies from 5700 rpm on up I think I would really call that 400 a 467 Hp motor, what do you think ?

Nothing noted in the article of the drilling between the webs in the lifter valley I assume to increase drainage and maybe drilling the "421 hole" on the deck?
I had to add weld to my T2 to match a 320 cfm E head-ground and blasted mine to look prettier Makes me wonder if my IA Camaro might pick up bottom end going to a T2 since I have a soft 60 ft. When we dynoed it the Dominator on an adapter did not make any more HP that the 4150 like his test.

The Victor shines on a 400 if the engine makes productive power above 7000 RPM. Not a lot of serious effort smaller cubic inch Pontiacs are built. The bigger engines make more power through out the RPM range and at lower level.... RPM=$$$

ok foor poops n giggles. sake.
same 71 400 .030. ross flat tops bme rods ultradyne sr cam 271/279 @050 .426 lobe on a 104 lsa and the victor seams like a lot of cam but it would put the power band up where the victor could work,i just dont know it its enough compression for that much cam in a small motor

You seem to be really hung up on building a sub-performing 400 regardless of info presented to you.
Your posting in the competition section so if you want to run that cam in a 406 cid motor then get 12 to 1 into that motor, or pick a different cam.

Your best chance to amaze all your friends and use your existing parts would be to install that cam at 100 ICL and measure your valve to piston clearance. Mill the heads to allow the the minimum. Look for a deal on a 750 cfm 4500 and tune that. The combination will most likely perfer 1.5 ratio rockers.... Sounds like a fun project. |
