68 GTO finally done !
Brought home my solar red 68 GTO from CW Restorations in Mason Ohio 2 days ago . It was last tagged in 1979 .- it’s been a long road . This was my dads car and he passed in 2014 . It runs fantastic ! Original 400 with a small HR , heads flow 230cfm , rare manifolds , stock Cliff qjet , M20 , 3.90s out back . Pulls 15-16 inches of vacuum and seems to get about 14mpg . I added power steering - turn one box , PB , vintage air . This car drives and handles great ! Edelbrock IAS shocks , stock 1 inch front bar , I added a 7/8 out back - it’s lowered a bit but great ride . 3.90 s , super 44 flowmasters is killer !

Looks great!
Nothing left to do but put some miles on it, and enjoy the open road!

I put 100 miles on the 1st day , but flooded it out yesterday lol not really sure what I did - then I managed to wear the battery down . Plugged in my charger - it didn’t work . So I have dry plugs and Amazonned me up a charger . I have to make sure the choke is set right . I set the choke pumped it twice , it fired then stopped . Just wouldn’t catch after that .

Beautiful car! And great sentimental value, being your Dad's car and all. I'm sure he's looking down with a huge grin from ear to ear. Very nice!

Nice ride. Congrat's on being finished, now get out and enjoy.
Hopefully something really simple with the flood issue.

Awesome car enjoy it, but if you turn the key or move it in any way, it ain’t done anymore . restoration humor.
Important thing is to enjoy and use the car IMO which looks like you are so that’s good . I’m sure your dads riding along w you in that car and that’s priceless!

I’m really surprised how well it drives and handles . The turn one steering box is great but the control arms and 1 inch front bar are all stock . The springs are higher rate but it rides smooth . It might have a bit of bump steer , stock drum spindals with a scare bird set up . But I doubt I’ll change a thing .

Beautiful but don't kid yourself...it ain't done...lol!
14mpg with 3.90 gear... that's pretty darned good I think. Those tall rear tires must help a lot!

The 3.90s are ok . That was about 50 miles freeway home from the paint shop - another 20 or so around town .I kept it between 60-70 mph . Used 5 gals and that was pretty accurate since I splashed gas back on me both times I filled it - gotta get the hang of a few things lol

What's the RPM at those speeds?

70 was right at 3400 rpm with 275/60/15s . I stayed under that in the slower lane because I was a nervous wreck ! I’ve never driven it before . Actually that was the first time I ever saw it move on its own lol It was pretty cool out when I drove it but the temp never came up much .
